Simon Kjaer

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Simon Kjaer

If, by some unfathomable ignominy, we don't sign defensive colossus Neven Subotic this summer, would anyone be happy to see us sign Simon Kjaer in his place ??

Or would we be happy just settling for Martinez instead ??

Don't be fooled by one good game for Denmark.

I happened to watch a lot of Roma last season as my brother is a fan and Kjaer for the most part was horrible, and by horrible I mean Savic on his worst day.

Dodge at all costs!

Subo I would take in a heartbeat! (Hummels as a preference however)

I seen a handful of roma games last season and he was pretty awful in almost every single one

Avoid, stick with either Hummels, or Subotic, though I'd prefer Hummels.

Hummels signed for another 4 or 5 years with Dortmund. Can't see them selling Subotic, either. Kjaer, as above, was widely panned for the way he's played at Roma.

I don't know who's available, but I can't see any of these coming here.

Thanks guys for the posts.

Bad season apart, I thought he played OK for Denmark against the Dutch and if he was in our squad with Bobby Manc working his magic, he could a most useful acquisition, especially as he quite often moved over to the right hand side of the back four.

If we wanted to play with three centre-backs in a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 formation, he looks as though he could dovetail in on the right, with Joleon on the left and Vinnie in the centre.

Could anyone provide a bit more information as to what his weaknesses are and why he's had such a bad season.

He showed promise for Palermo, but that's two underwhelming seasons in a row now. Even though he's still young enough, there's no guarantee he'd be an improvement on Savic even. Could be worth a punt for a less ambitious PL club tho.

am i the only one who thinks we need cover like Kolo could provide if he was a few years younger instead of some fantastically glamorous international superstar CB who'll cost 30M?

Komps and Lescott are the pairing. Find some support behind them for cover. That is all.

I agree, although Kjaer is neither a glamorous superstar nor would he cost 30m, more like 5.

If we're throwing around some names, how about Tomkins? Any regular Wham watchers around? Would he make an able 3rd or 4th choice? Spurs have been lining up a £5m deal apparently.

He was shite against Holland too. I lost count of the number of straight balls the dutch played between him & that other bag of shite.

Luckily for them, Van Persie was doing a personal tribute to Gerry Creaney.

Trouble is, Doomie, our main source of cover for Vinnie and Joleon in the forthcoming season, would now seem to be centred around Ted's favourite player; Savic (especially if Kolo leaves to go to France) - which is enough to make anyone shudder and worry.....hence my own thoughts about Kjaer.

I'm not sure which cut-price centre back we could go for without suffering a loss in quality, other than some fading veteran in the later stages of his career, or some youngster exhibiting tremendous but unproven potential.

However, from the unanimously critical comments on this thread, I take it that it would be a 'thumbs-down' from everyone if we ever should try to sign Simon Kjaer and, on that basis, Bob and the gang will probably be of a similar perception.

Bearing all that in mind, our best option would seem to be no other than to make a determined effort to sign Neven Subotic; which I, personally, would find to be most acceptable indeed.

Mancini already has this covered.

If reports going around are right, and in this case I think they are, Bobby is moving after Ranocchia of Inter.

At 24 years old, a mobile 6ft 5", experienced but not at his footballing peak and available for around 7-10 million, he fits the bill of 3rd choice cb nicely.

Ranocchia didn't play much last year but still nearly made the Euro squad. He has the quality and could grow into a first choice CB in the end.

Inter don't want rid but are ok with him leaving for a good price as they try and reshape there squad after a poor season.

Ranocchia would be a shrewd signing imo.

Keep Kolo and get Ranocchia , with Savic headed out on loan and we would plenty of quality CB cover next year.

Hi Modena, thanks for your advice. Everyone seems to have the same opinion of Simon Kjaer and it seems I was the only one who thought he might be OK for City......I now stand chastened and corrected !!

Blue Blood made an earlier post that we might be trying to sign Ranocchia from Inter-Milan. Coming from Italy, can you tell us anything more about him i.e. his strengths and weaknesses etc. as he sounds as though he might be an interesting possibility.

Ranocchia is a young talent, but he has still to show this talent. This year played few times. Absolutely unuseful for City. In my opinion se need a defender of the same value of Joleon or better of higher level.

For this reason forget Kjaer and Ranocchia, first one has been a disaster this year, second one is still not a player

Thanks, Modena, for your reply and comment.

I'm convinced, more than ever, we've got to get Neven Subotic above all else. Think I'll e-mail Bob to this effect.

I liked the way Hummels ran the ball out of defence against the Dutch - thought he was pants at times in that game though (after a good game against Portugal). If Bayern wanted to swap Badstuber for Dzeko I wouldn't mind - a highly rated left sided defender who could cover fullback about as well as Lescott in an emergency and provide competition for a starting spot with him in the centre.
