WELLBECK

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

WELLBECK

Postby shortagain » Sat Jun 16, 2012 9:04 am

Is it just me or did anyone else see Wellbeck reach out to control the Walcott cross, miss control it so badly it hit his heel & went into the corner. He of course claims he did it on purpose, so why didn't he score with his head from the perfect cross by Milner. Carrol would have.

Or is it just sour grapes ?

What a silly thread.

He clearly meant it. Fair play to the fresh prince. Cracking goal.

He intended it, his technique was all over the place as usual but he did well to get enough on it to get it over the line.

Of course he bloody meant it. It was the only thing he could of done to score. If that was a City player scoring the exact same goal you'd be claiming it was a stroke of genius.

I really don't think he really wanted to do that. My opinion was that he wanted to stop the ball with his right foot and then hit it with a spin with his left one, but the ball jumped werid, from his backheel.

I said I thought it was a fluke in the match thread and my thoughts were poo pood. I honestly do not think he really meant what happened - nothing to do with loathing all things scum either.

I think it was one of those things where you realise last minute you cant do anything else but touch it goalwards and hope for the best.

I dont think he expected to score, but he definately meant to send it in the general direction of the goal, and that is all you can ask of a striker, sometimes it comes off, sometimes it doesnt.

Credit where its due as far as i'm concerned, it was a quality goal for me. If a player from any other team did it, you'd all be losing your shit over it.

I think he just instictively did what he could to score & it was a great finish. I think he is a good finisher on the whole but as an allround player, he's mid table standard at best (even my rag mate said that to me when discussing England's options, so it's not bias).

Some of his touches were fucking inept & brainless but compared to Young, he was Zidane so I'm wondering if there's a way to fit him, Rooney & Carroll into the team rather than rely on that useless, diving, bag of dogshite again.

4-3-3 would do it but Roy is a 4-4-2 man & therefore it would mean either Rooney or Wellbeck playing out wide.

I dont think we would have a problem playing 3 up front but doubt woy would go for that. i would be tempted to drop parker, let Gerrard anchor the midfield with Milner and fit Rooney and Walcott into a free-ish sort of roles behind and wide of the strikers

Roy was already hinting about dropping Parker when he said he and Gerard are getting on abit and will struggling to play a game every 4 days.

Milner in the middle is definitely worth a try, plenty of engine. We will end up trying to accomodate Rooney, Wallcott, Young and Wellbeck in the next game, we will lose shape. I hope Roy can make some big decisions and not put square pegs in round holes. Like the previous 4 England managers have done.

The next fixture is basically Ukraine away, they are playing for their lives, it's a very very tough game to win.

Milner is a very, very average winger. Always has been, always will be. Walcott looked 10 x as effective. I like Milner but he's only good as a central midfielder, that's where he made his name for Villa and that's where his best performances for us have come. He just doesn't have the pace to be a winger and it's hardly like his crossing ability makes up for it. I mean he is ok at crossing but nothing special.

Ditto ^

I think hes a really good player. Not top top class by any stretch, but his rate of improvement has been excellent. I was chuffed when he went off against us. He's capable of some great finishes.
