Increasing capacity

Postby shortagain » Mon Jun 18, 2012 4:52 pm

No one seems to know when we are going to increase our capacity & more importantly how.

Does anyone know how many seats surround the pitch i.e 1st row ?

The reason being, heard a comment about one of the pitches at Euro's being below ground level and we have a very large space all the way round between the pitch edge & supporters wall. Not being an engineer haven't a clue whats involved, but if we could get an extra 10 or maybe even 20 rows in all the way round, could give us maybe an extra 10,000 or even more on the gate.

Just a thought, especially as we now seem to have 15,000 on the waiting list

That 15k waiting list is Chinners type bollox...it's how many Blue Members we have...hence the fake waiting list

Its also probably easier to put tiers on top, as that's how the stadium expansion is designed.

Last time I did the stadium tour the plan was to make sure we built continued success on the pitch and it all depended on that. We have success, but I imagine 1 or 2 good champs league campaigns and another league title equal continued success.

I think if we did it now, we'd fill 65k for premier league games, but Europe and the cups wouldn't see the attendance go much over the current 48k.

I hope when we decide to do it, its done fucking quick, in a close season, I hated it when the Kippax took so long to build and it looked wank for ages. I'm sure the owner won't fuck about and will bring in an expert construction company who will work 24/7 and meet deadlines. Close season is about 3 months. Its a big ask.

The last set of figures issued by Dloitte, showed City earned £26.6m from matchday receipts. In the great scheme of things, that is not a great figure and if the ground were expanded stand by stand, any losses would be quite small. At a rough estimate, the ends would lose us only about £5m per season and the sides about £10m in revenue.

I remember from the tour I did in about 2005/6 that at the end of that season Barca were due to dig down and put another 4 or 5 rows in, sacrificing some of the area around the pitch - it wasnt the huge increase that we need, probably only adding a maximum of a couple of thousand seats, it was just squeezing the last bit of capacity out of a tired old stadium

Plus barca only have a roof on one stand dont they?

the problem is we've already dug up most/all of what's there. here's a "before and after" image of the 2002/3 excavations which created the lower tier. Can't see any space for more (apart from the 2 5-a-side pitches referred to in the other thread about this).

As I understand it, the lower tier was built on all (3?) sides at initial construction for the CW games. Then covered with the track/field. As that was removed the lower tier was revealed.

I think I've read different, but I'm sure I saw something at the news at the time where they went 'under' the running track to show the seats that would be revealed.

Happy to be proved wrong if anyone has more info! :)

No, they didn't uncover them, they dug down & built them. I think you're confusing Eastlands with Atlantis ;)

This is from Wikipedia, for those who don't already know, anyone can edit it.

Interesting to see we have an agreement to be allowed to go up to 60,000. I have a feeling we could easily

For the current and previous seasons, the club has sold all 36,000 of its allocated season tickets[73] and is now looking at increasing the stadium's capacity. The club's agreement with Manchester City Council in March 2010 allows redevelopment around the stadium and possible stadium expansion to 60,000.[70] This increase in capacity could be achieved by adding a third tier of seats to the north and south stands so that they match the east and west stands. The stadium expansion is linked to the club's stated commitment to "potential development as part of a contribution to the regeneration of east Manchester".[72]

A Telegraph article contradicts the 60,000 limit, probably lazy journalism.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... dium.html#

]The club has conducted feasibility studies on various ways of expanding the ground, with the most ambitious plan to lift off the roof and add a whole new tier. That would give the Etihad stadium a capacity in excess of 70,000 and hugely increase the potential match-day income.

The theory is sound though, raising the East and West stand would increase it to 60,000 (I'd presume that also fills the corners in with seats), adding a whole new tier all round might allow up to 70,000.

I say we dig about 666 more layers into the earth, add some seats and a huge "Welcome to Hell" banner at the entrance to the stadium. Play a lot of old Venom records over the PA to get the crowd amped up. Sorted.

Cheers

I want a new build spunktastic state of the art stadium by, say, 5 years from now. I envision something iconic.

Capacity 65000, and leaving the option open to expand it by say 25000 in near future.

Where is that "thumbs up" function I'm so fond of in Facebook.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
