You and others prefer to believe that its just not true....bully for you.

Isn't everyone entitled to try and get the most money they can? Why should someone settle for a lower wage if they have the potential to earn more while keeping their current job? Especially someone like De Jong whose working life many be done by the age of 35.

Quit having double standards for footballers vs others.

Noone will pay NDJ 130 k elsewhere..he would be lucky to get what hes getting now.I bet a pound to a penny City will not cave in to his demands..he either signs for 100 k a week or City will sell him....as Ive said before, he is not that fuckign important a player that he can have us over a financial barrel.

But what's the harm in him trying to negotiate (besides mongs like yourself overreacting)?

You wouldnt even make it to mong status, your like 5 steps below that status you fuckign turd dripping.

I really think we need to keep him. Barry's powers are on the wane and he is getting even slower. I don't think anybody will offer him much more than we are. I really hope he signs on again.

A thread that shows having a bad temper and a foul mouth doesn't necessarily invalidate a guy's opinion. CFTG's post is correct, De Jong's not worth 100K a week and if he thinks he can extort more than that from City he'll find himself at Liverpool in year's time earning less and winning nowt.

How do we know he is holding out for more money? If he is any thing like American pro athletes who make far his demands could be something utterly ridiculous. Alex Rodriguez who makes far more than any footballer was holding out over a dog during one of his contract negotiations. He wanted some rare breed of dog as a part of his contract and the team wasn't giving in.

If Barry is getting 130k per week, then Nige is right to think he should be getting 150k+.
Younger, better player, more important to our future.

But Barry got that pay scale when we were battling to get decent players in mate.......we had no choice.
He cannot bring up this to justify him going on the same pay scale.

De Jong is what allows Yaya to push up the field. In the last 6 games, Yaya pushed up higher was our second option when we couldn't break down a team. De Jong is an integral part to our team and our title winning season.

whinging about players asking for crumbs when we have a whole cake to give out

De jong isnt an integral part of our team at all , Mancini benched him for a huge chunk of the season as he wasnt needed.
He is a useful squad player but never in a million years will it fuck us if he goes now.

I agree that De Jong is a second option, when we struggle to break a team down, De Jong sits and King Yaya powers forward and wins us games. I can see De Jong playing a lot more next season, giving Yaya and Silva a rest. Don't want to pay over the odds, but we need to keep him.

Between spending an extra 30K/week on De Jong (who is doing a perfectly fine job for us at the moment) and splashing out cash for a new player, giving them time to adjust to our system, then hoping they integrate into the club as well as Nigel..... give De jong some extra money! easy

But this is assuming that your tabloid bollox is correct, which is a very small possibility

Point is , if he does indeed stick to his guns wanting a huge increase then we can still sell him and then get someone in to play that very same role and it certainly wont cost us 130 K.

Name a player as good as De Jong in his role that would play for under 130K/week

Xavi Alonso is probably the only better holding midfielder I can think of, and he'd never leave Madrid, let alone for £130K! I don't think that De Jong is worth that much, but as a club what do we do? Make a statement of intent in a financial sense, i.e not be held over wages? Or make a statement of intent and keep players we need. IMO go for the financial intent, as the financial fair play rules are now coming into play, and we are the champions, so we should be dictating players wages. Definitely want him to stay though.

Assuming the numbers are correct, and none of us know, then I can't see de Jong getting much more than 100k a week, even if he leaves on a free. He's not the type of player teams pay the biggest transfers or wages for.

That said, I don't see what he's doing wrong at the moment. He knows that City won't want to let him go on a free, which means either selling him and finding a replacement or giving into his demands. If we want him and haven't got a replacement lined up, we either crack and pay him or call his bluff. He could go into his last year, with us willing to let him go and looking for his replacement - that would leave him going elsewhere and potentially getting less pay than is on offer. Worse, he could have a career ending injury this season and get nothing beyond that.

To him it's nothing more than a job, so why sign up when there's still room for movement in the deal?

At the end of all that, we don't even know it's about money. De Jong may have decided he doesn't want to turn into Bridge, spending the next four years on the bench. His decision may be that he'd rather play every game for Stoke on 1/3 of the pay to sit on our bench. Doesn't fit with a nice story for the papers, but could be just as true as the demands for more money.
