Richer than God

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Richer than God

Postby Dubciteh » Thu Jun 21, 2012 1:41 pm

New book out by a city fan, anyone read it?

http://www.guardianbookshop.co.uk/Berte ... 0857384867

Heres a review:

http://theskyblueview.blogspot.ie/2012/ ... odern.html

Sounds decent enough might buy it if i can get a second opinion on here first.

Cheers
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,

Sounds shit.

A journey from supporter to sceptic, sounds like an absolute "I was here back when ...blah fucking blah" "city aren't the club I fell in love with" piece of shit.

That pretty much is what I thought. We need a thumbs up/like button.

Why can't some cunt write a book about how that goal exorcised 32 years of demons, 32 years of shattered hope and broken dreams. I fucking love that we are rich as fuck, I don't long for the good old days, because lets face it we've been mostly shit. If we win the league every season for the next 20 years I will fucking love it and I will spend my time rubbing it in the faces of those red twats. I won't be whinging about lack of competition and it not being good for football. I don't need some sanctimonious journo prick telling me about his fucking scepticism, if your a blue and you aren't fucking loving being Champions then you should probably jog the fuck on.

That goes for that dick licker Colin Schindler too, stick to writing lists.

I'm of to some Kun induced youtube heaven, I will probably have a little happy weep, then throw myself aroud for a bit.

It was serialised in the guardian a while back, I thought it sounded like a good read.

Brilliant. The Be Sharpes were a tight lil quartet !

I think its more of a psychological representation that some people just really want to be angry and depressed. I am a new fan compared to someone like John, but I remember picking City as my team of choice to follow. I knew they were shiite most of the time, and I knew the hometown fans were loyal...and I knew that they were the Rags enemy. When the Sheik bought them, I thought, sweet, now we can compete every year against the Rags and heck, maybe even play in the Champions League ? Now seeing that come true, who cares what people will say. Support City because you want to support them. Read the book if you like, dont read it. Personally, Im not going to sit around and talk about how "Ohh city just isnt city anymore" because thats stupid and makes for a miserable existence.

To be fair, looking at the review, I think it's football in general, not City that he's cynical about. I don't know because I've not read the book, but from the review it doesn't come over as a Colin Shindler, "this isn't the City I fell in love with" type of book. Think the strapline may be a bit misleading.
Probably

Think its Simon Hattenstone you are thinking of here, though David Conn has, I admit, swayed since times of Thaksin, but I believe is still an enormous fan. Check out his reaction on Guardian podcast day 1 anno sergio if you disagree.

I'm really disappointed with the attitudes in this thread though. I'm 70 pages into this book & its already offered an insight into the behind the scenes stuff, particularly relating to Khaldoon, Marwood, Simon Pearce & the pressures on their respective roles.

Such as Marwood being white faced with fear when we were 1 down to Napoli.(&then his reaction)
The Lescott transfer being wrapped up, during a game, in the only 2 hours that the decision makers were in the same room.
THe general set up on match days, behind the scenes.

Appreciate Conn is more into financial than tabloid angle, but I think he is a good writer & meticulous researcher & that his opinion is valid.

I also hope the remaining 300 pages do not make me regret this point, but I doubt they will. The guy is onside and as said earlier the slagging on this thread, by people who I thought knew better is a shame.

My copy will be ready for someone else to read in a week or so. Pm if you want me to send it on

Same here.

I love that lady luck is finally at our side. We've had to endure a lot and we stuck by it. Now we're growing into this footballing empire and some dicks are moaning that this is not the same club.

Last time I checked, MCFC was still called MCFC. We're the same club, always will be. We just have this new owner who's an absolute legend.
