this story reminds us that our fantastic owners occupy a world with different standards than our own.
Abu Dhabi

A British man reportedly convicted of supplying cannabis in the United Arab Emirates is facing the death penalty, the Foreign Office says.

He has not been named but UAE newspaper the National says he is 21 years-old.

It said an Abu Dhabi court heard how he sold an undercover officer 20g of the drug worth 1,500 UAE Dirhams (£262).

The Foreign Office said it was in "contact with the British national and his legal team and continue to provide consular assistance".

"I can confirm that a British national is facing death penalty in the UAE," a spokesman said.

But he said the Foreign Office was unable to confirm details of the case.

The newspaper report said that the Briton had been arrested alongside a 19-year-old Syrian man.

The Briton's mother collapsed outside the court after the sentence was passed, it added.
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Tasteless, yes but incredibly true.
Different countries have different cultures and Laws, you have to respect these and abide by them.
This is a harsh sentence, but the UAE are well known for their views on drugs, public indecency etc.
Why take the risk, especially dealing ?

i can't imagine anyone in their right mind would be selling anything in a country like that...you know yr dealing with some hammurabi code-type bullshit, so what you get is what you get.

I'm not a proponent of the death penalty, but i also know that each country's cultural sensibilities are typically beyond the reach of "western influence" when it comes to trying to map our social mores onto their judicial system.

Sad news for the kid and his family for sure...how do they execute people in Abu Dhabi?

cheers

I can't imagine they will actually do this, the High Court will commute it to a prison term and fine.

absolutely agree with the general consensum: dealing with / approaching different cultures means first and foremost:
a) respect the rules a nation have set for their ethos
b) don't be so blind and daft to assume for granted the comfort spot provided by our own ethos

also agree that Midnight Express springs automatically to mind: great and very telling movie, which shocked me too in my proceding to become of a man.
I remember having dealt with a case of a vessel arrested when entered the Saudi national waters with the master facing aptutation penalty because a sailor had found in possession of alchool and porno magazines. and that despite clear procedures established by the shipowing co. that provided for inspection of the personnel before entering the Saudi waters.

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

they did commute one a couple of years ago but only because on appeal he proved it was for personal use. This kid was selling. Up to now their stance on sentencing for dealing looks pretty straightforward.
Even if the Royal family show mercy (good press?) the likely sentence will be long.

They commuted a Canadian's, a few years back, to ten years in jail and a fine and he was caught with 4kg ofthe stuff and counterfeit goods as well.

Greed & a lack of respect for the laws of that country. Same as here but with different consequences. Firing squd by the regulators there, stuck in a car boot & burned alive by the regulators here.

A few harsher sentences wouldn't go amiss over here if you ask me.

Death for dealing drugs is abit harsh on the face of it but when I was in school there were lads of 11 smoking weed. I know if some cunt sold my son drugs I would fucking kill him with a smile on my face. Drug dealers are scumbags and they ruin and kill other people and families for an Audi and an iPhone so fuck the cunts.

Now that was brilliant. 10/10.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
