City Under 15's in Singapore

Can't believe that there isn't a topic on this, well not one that I can find, especially as Eurosport cover the tournament and have shown all City's games I believe.

Had some business in Hong Kong and re scheduled it for Singapore so that I could take in the Vasco and Singapore games but unfortunately had to return home before the crunch game against Ajax that eventually saw us eliminated. Oh how I manipulate my clients Lol.

Not really familiar with any of the players but we certainly have some good prospects coming through the ranks. Thought that we played some good stuff against Vasco and although the gulf in class was huge against Singapore, we also played some fine football. Having just watched the Ajax game in full we played some good stuff in the first half with Joshua Murray making an absolutely mesmeric mazy run before crossing precisely for Aaron Nemane to score. Nemane had shown very quick feet against Singapore with a quick one two from right to left foot to round the keeper and score. Having been two up against Ajax they made a substitution at half time to bring on their best player who changed the game by scoring twice in quick seccession to eventually send city out by 4-2.

I appreciate that these are only young lads, but I do wish that our fans would take more interest in the up and coming talent. After all, they are our future.

I think I did see a thread somewhere and like you I was impressed by what I saw overall despite the Singapore team being very weak and losing the game against AJax after being 2 up. So much good about the way we played with the emphasis on pass and move football and virtually no long ball at all.

I wasnt very convinced by what I saw defensively but the forward play was very positive.Decent touch,intelligent movement,good understanding between the players>sometimes the passing wasnt great but I put that down to the artificial pitch some of the time but even though it broke down they still kept the same philosophy.

I think I might just watch more of the 16's next season at Platt Lane. You can do the foreign trips K and I will do the local stuff :)

It's things like these that makes it gutting thatI haven't had Eursport for seven months now because of changing houses. I'll be having it again in august though. Love watching these youth tournaments, City or not, to spot future talent.

It's rather interesting we lost to Ajax who have unquestionably the premium Academy in Europe.

Did you get to speak with the coaches? Is there any current team/generation that they think will be something out of the ordinary?

I was discussing it it during the England/Italy thread but as far as I know, the only City game shown live was v Singapore ?

I think it's fantastic. I've never seen a City kids team play like that before.

[strike]I assume Ajax will still be way ahead of us and probably turn us over[/strike], as they are allowed to coach for more hours than over here, but watching those kids play, I take my hat off to Scott Sellars. He has obviously told them how to play from the back & the great thing about it is that even when they fucked it up completely, they had the confidence just to carry on playing that way. He's obviously not giving them shit when they make mistakes, just telling them to keep playing football. One move, the keeper passed it out to the CB just outside our box, was closed down so passed it back, keeper passed it out to another lad on the edge, closed down, passed back, out again passed back, out again, one two'd on through midfield, through to the striker, round their keeper: goal. Fucking tremendous.

How good those kids are individually I've no idea (some looked great but they are so young & the oppo was shite) but if they are being taught to play that way, then when we do get talented lads, we can be sure they are learning the game correctly nowardays.

Aaron Nemane's finish v Singapore when he rolled the ball sideways under his foot to round the keeper reminded me of Pele. Great stuff. Not sure Joe Hart would have let him get away with it though!

I don't think a 4-2 loss is a bad result against them. We have only just started with this new academy project and Ajax are world renowned for their academy, maybe not the best in the world but they have to be close to Barca's.

We were 2 up 1st half too & made changes half time I believe. Of course you'd have to be something of an experienced kid watcher (not in a Gary Glitter sense) to be fairly certain which kids from that age are going to turn into footballers & I don't often see that age group myself, but I've been watching youth football since Peter Barnes etc were that age, & I've found a lot of the players I've watched appeared to lack at least some, or often most, of the basics of being quality footballers. (even some who made it to the 1st team squad).

Every single one of those kids seemed to have 'something'. At least an idea of how to play football & the basic skill to do it. Some seemed exceptionally good but whatstruck me was how they were all trying to play the right way. Imo, Vlad Weiss for example has less idea of how to play football than most of those kids.

One lad (a minature Robinho) came on & looked really good but then seemed a bit Weiss style 'thicky' & behind in his football intelligence. Well he scored 2 today & is 13 years old, so he's entitled to be!

Most of these lads are from the home countries incidentally.

I would say Ajax has the best training program considering they have set of rules from which distance to recruit to their Academy. I think they don't have players outside Netherlands until after the age of 16 and most of the players are from Amsterdam and surrounding areas to my knowledge. Barcelona on the other hand recruit from all over the world and therefore have much bigger pool of players to choose from.

Considering those restrictions the strike rate of Ajax Academy is nothing short of stunning.
