What now Ade?

Postby PeterParker » Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:44 am

Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed talks are being held with Tottenham over making his loan move from Manchester City a permanent deal.

Adebayor, a former Arsenal striker, has scored 18 goals in 37 games for Spurs since he moved to White Hart Lane on loan, helping the club to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League.

But rather than return to champions City the Togo striker has revealed to fans that he wants to stay in north London.

He wrote on Twitter: "Loved my spell at Tottenham, but i don't know if i would be there next season.

So, after `Arry left, the chances of Ade to go there went really down. I don't think Image will want him and there is no way Maureen will have another go on him, so what now? He still has 1 or 2 years in his contract with us, but there aren't any signs that someone will buy him.

We will loan or sell him elsewhere. The last thing we want is Adebayor turning up again in our dressing room and puking on it.

Adebayor had his chance to be a squad member and contributor at City and he blew it off, whinged, moaned and signed his own exit pass. Unlike Tevez, if he has a gripe he doesnt work his nuts off no matter what but would rather sulk, loaf and go through the motions. Great player though he is, both he and we need separation from one another.

I think he may be off to Chelsea, as they will be in the market for a replacement for the goals of Drogba, Anelka & Malouda. They can't rely on Torres, Sturridge & Lukaku, and I can't see them spending serious money on another big name. Adebayor would be a nice fit.

Not sure City would be happy about that from a competition point of view though.

He's either going to have to be 5th striker at City or accept a wage cut I should imagine.

There would be hundreds of clubs happy to take Adebayor but not on his current wage. I very much doubt City will want to subsidise him heavily again (I'm absolutely amazed they did it last time & would have been willing to show my arse in Burton's window over that one).

Personally, I think the accusations against him whilst a player here are unfair & I'd have no problem with him being in the squad if he was willing to put a shift in. I think he'd try to do his best if he had the chance. It's whether Bob will let him do that or not, as last time, he refused to let him play more than an occasional game, no matter how well he performed when selected.

Agree about the accusations, I personally think that whilst he can be a sulky fucker and inconsistent, he is no different to Mario in that sense and if you wanted to sub Adebayor for having a shit game at least you know he would still be on the pitch.

I remember when called upon towards the end of his stay in the Europa league he did a decent job for us - did he not score a hattrick and was then dropped for the league game? If you bag 3 and are not even on the bench for the next game, you know your face doesnt fit, and I am not surprised he had issues with Mancini over that - he is too good a player to be playing the odd game for us.

I would like to see him back to be honest, as he gives us at least what Mario does (inconsistency, but a world beater on his day) but don't think we need 5 senior strikers.

If Mancini has no intention of playing him, a subsidised loan deal (Malaga/PSG?)is better than nothing from a financial perspective. Even if he were transferred permanently I would wager we would have to settle up his contract for him to move, and you can't blame him for that.

he scored roughly 1 in 2 did he not? not a flop, just not the player the manager wants or needs.

Mancini never would have bought him...Ade caught in the shuffle. I don't think he's a bad guy. He was at times brilliant for us, but he's "one of those strikers" who needs consistent service or he hangs his head and trots around like a sulking fuck.

Honestly, he is, on his day, one of the best defensive forwards you'll ever see...he had his head on everything and was really a challenge for teams on dead balls. Plus he has pace, when he needs it, two good feet...

Sounds like a player a lot of teams should want.

I didn't realize i was still this much of an Ade-licker until i wrote all that.

Also, Happy Independence Day.

Personally, due to his wages and reluctance to accept much of a (if any) cut I think he'll do a Bridge and sit his contract out before ending up in either China or Russia. He does seem to want to play though, so may be there's a small glimmer of hope for getting him off our wage bill.

Due to his wages, I think all clubs out there know they'll be able to get a good deal out of us for Ade, who is very good player.

We have 2 options I think:
1. Another loan deal, which will have to be subsidised, unless Chelsea, PSG, Malaga, Anzhi come in for him. It's not ideal, but at least it will give some relief to the wage bill.
2. Sell him at a cut price, that way the extra money the buying club would have used to spend on purchasing him, they can then spend on his wages over the course of a contract.

The chances of option 2 happening aren't great so we'll be looking at another loan again. Ade wants to play football, but he also knows Mancini doesn't want him, so he can get a move to a decent club whilst getting his full salary. You can't really blame him for that. We offered him a great deal and he accepted, and then we soon changed our minds on him. Obviously there were various factors affecting that, but that's just a reality we have to deal with.

I meant in terms of money he cost 25m and has been on close to 200k a week and we have only had 34 appearances from him a good chunk of those in meaningless matches like uefa cup and sub appearances. Granted he did well when he played and i quite like him but he has been an expensive flop for me, we will prob have to let him go for free in the end

Hopefully he will sign for spurs, well frankly i could not care less who he signs for as long as he is gone off our books for good. I always thought that 25m was mad money for him. When you think about it there was some money wasted on wasters.

I think Ted and Sparta say all that needs to be said about Ade.
I for one never understood why Mancini treated him so badly and all these accusations about him being disruptive, were they ever proven or was it all hearsay and speculations ?
For me I'll have Ade in the squad any day over Dzeko. Simple as that.

Its not as simple as that imo. I trust mancini if he thinks dzecko is a better fit than ade then so be it, the proof is in the pudding and the pudidng is a shiny premier league trophy.
