Only problem I had was with him wanting to sit on his arse and see his contract out rather than accepting he wasn't worth the money he was on and going somewhere else. It showed what his priority was.

Exactly.
Better player obviously but same downside. After we give him the "pension money" what is his motivation to perform.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Atleast he's going to be playing all season. Very frustrating that the best we can do is loan him to some far lesser team and still probabl have to pay him about 90k a week. There is no way Brighton can afford much more than £10k a week on a fucking left back's wages.

Good point Crossie. We needed to get out of mid table, our left backs (and forwards) were dire. So we had to up the quality a bit to move up the table (not much as it happens, but most in and out the club thought he was half decent at the time.)

We had to pay him a wedge and long contract to leave his old comfort zone and move north etc.

Cookie couldn't have known he'd come up with stats like 37 crosses all to an opponent!!

Speak for yourself. I didn't want him after how he'd been at Chelsea, which is exactly how he's been with us. It was no disgrace to lose his place to Ashley Cole and he was unfortunate to end up on the bench. However, he then signed a contract extension, knowing full well he wasn't going to get any games. It was obvious he was more interested in money than playing then, so we just offered him even more.

I agree we couldn't have known he'd be as hopeless as he was, but we knew his attitude before he arrived, so there's no point complaining that he's happy as a bench warmer.

He bought Zabaleta and Kompany for the same as Bridge cost. He either couldn't care less what players cost once the money arrived or had a complete lack of imagination in his signings. I suspect both.

So many poor left backs in the past 5 years and only two good ones in Michael Ball (decent defending although scared of the half way line) and Gael Clichy, so we're still in need of a backup for Gael! Another summer searching for a left back, sigh.

I'd be happy to keep Kolarov if we do what we should have done with Garrido and convert him into what he wants to be and is best at, a left winger.

The club threw money at signings after the takeover. We signed a load of players to establish us in the top part of the Premier League & we knew at the time, that we couldn't sign 'A' or even many 'B' list players & would have to pay over the odds for some 'C' list players to get them to come to an unfashionable club.

We also knew that many of these players would be fucked off once we established ourselves (everyone used to talk about it at the time; players who we would sign once we were a 'big' name). Are those players so stupid that they didn't suspect this ?

We wanted them, they wanted us. We went up a level. They got paid a fortune. We attracted better players. The 'rejects' made money without contributing. We won the League. They are leaving.

Can you all just stop fucking moaning about it. IT WORKED.

I liked Garrido at left-back. Certainly better than Kolarov. Better free-kicks as well, funnily enough.

He really was a great LB for us at that time! Probably provided the highlight of our season too:

Garrido was decent too. Never quite understood why we let him go. (or has time just erased the bad memories of him?)

Why's it moaning to say that Bridge was, is and always will be shit? Lescott wasn't a £24m defender, but he's been more than good enough so the fee is now irrelevant. I don't care if Bridge came on a free and has paid us £5 a week to play, he's hopeless. The one positive I took when he was playing was that at least he attacked. And then those stats appeared. Garrido did a far better job for us, which sums up how bad Bridge has been.

There must have been better players in Europe or South America we could have picked up, like Zab. Once the money arrived, Hughes seemed to lose interest and just buy players with premier league experience, regardless of the cost or quality.

In a process like this, you can't go buy the best player out there, while your team is full of mediocre players. That was the case with Kaka and that is the case in every team that will have a sugar daddy behind them.
Kaka refused us back then, because he was convinced that we can't make it, now he will give his legs to be part of this and that is more than normal.

Bridge at that time was one of the best english defenders and sad for him, he thought that just being Wayne Bridge will be enough for earn a place in the club. Imho, Kolo, Adeba, Bridge and Robinho weren't players used just to bring better ones, the board really had convidence in them and the only one who delivered more or less was Kolo.

ahhhh Garrido. I remember his brilliant free kick against wolves that curved around the wall.
looked a good player whenever he played. I may just have selective memory though.

I liked garrido too,got a raw deal, would be ideal back up left back, not much difference between him and kolorov n my opinion. Didn't he use to keep Jose Enrique out of team at Spanish under 21?

He was really good when things flowed around the pitch. If teams bombarded him he went to shit. Kind of the opposite of Richard Dunne.

I dont even think he will excel in the Championship. He is a player who made his reputation by not playing in a Chelsea side. A very average
player who has made millions by hiding behind Ashley Cole the majority of his career. Zero motivation to ever improve.

Incredibly to think the money we have spent on LB's to replace Garrido. He offered almost identical attributes to Kolarov. Could not defend, Great going forward and could hit a sweet set piece. Unlike Bridge and Kolarov he was a likable grafter who seemed happy to be part of a squad set up.

Don't remember Bridge excelling in a single match with MCFC before he finally got rumbled.

I can't do with a guy who wastes a quarter of his career sidelined rather than accept slightly-less-than-obscene wages to pay football somewhere else. (Any fucking where). And he had the brass neck to complain City woudn't do the decent thing and pay off his contract. Absolute lump of jelly with zero ambition.
