RVP could be a good signing if he kept his form up, and for a much better club could maybe even do better. Problem is, he didn't get injured last season for the first time in a long time, and he's been playing way too many games. It's only a matter of time before he gets hurt and misses at least half a season.

Many have mentioned that he's a terminal sick note and an old bastard. So, no. No one finds it weird.

He's also one of the best 5 strikers in world football over the last 5 years wouldn't you say?

Is he? He's had a couple of good seasons and one excellent season and that's mainly because Arsenal play 'Give it to bloody Persie'.

He's a 1 in 2 player and nobody can deny he's a class player, top 5 in the world though, I'm not sure.

let's name 5 strikers better over the last 5 years...

let's for the sake of argument, include ANY forward players, including obv. players like Messi, Tranny and the likes of other wide players who you or I may or may not consider a legit "centre forward" but spend a lot time running at people, scoring goals and taking shots to create goal-scoring chances.

Even when doing so, i get about 8-9 *potentially* more productive overall players than RVP in the last 4-5 seasons...and you could certainly argue that RVP has a slot in the group below in the top 6-7 of these players:

Tranny
Messi
Tevez
Ibra
Rooney (who's on the slide down to mediocrity due to the curse upon his house due to his hair)
Drogba (who's done at the highest level)
David Villa
Aguero
Mario Gomez

Those are the only consistent strikers i can come up with who i think have really done the business on the biggest stages over the last 5 years. Who else would you consider?

Berba -- maybe? he's kinda ceased to matter though.
Etoo -- doesn't matter anymore, tho he probably should be in that list retrospectively
Cavani -- *almost* but just hasn't done it quite long enough, consistently enough, also see Balotelli, Falcao as well, both of whom are filed here. One more season like last for Cavani and he's in the elite group. Also true for the other two mentioned here as well.
Torres -- has been anemic for 2+ seasons for the most part. Should he recover form of 4-5 seasons ago then he shoots back into this list.
Adebayor -- is probably *nearly* in the list above in terms of consistency over the last half-decade, as crazy as that sounds to City fans
Benzema -- should be on the list above in a couple years
Neymar -- sits at the kids table, while all the adults are getting ready for their supper
and some stragglers like Dzeko, Lewandowski, the huge tall Spanish striker, some Balkans dudes, etc...and they've all not done it for either long enough or at a high enough level to quality.

cheers

I think when considering his for it's worth mentioning that his peak seems to have arrived at the same time as his teams dip.

A lot of the others mentioned carried or helped carry teams to glory. Rvp's goals seem to have come at the expense of arsenals success.

Neutral vote from me.

Would be happy if he came here and hit 30 a season, this said striker is not my first choice position to strengthen this summer, sooo i'm neutral.

Yup, I just meant that he could be promising in terms of having a successful impact at the club

I am looking forward to the game on 27th July. I wonder if Wenger will play him and risk injury to his prize asset to make a point.

he will play him. he did it with Nasri, didnt he?

he wouldn't mind him getting a little niggle that kept him out until the transfer window closes.
