Suarez

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Suarez

After warming the bench for the last 2 games, he got 10 minutes at the end of the Spain v Portugal U19 group game today and looked good. I think he has a lot of potential. Hopefully he'll get a start against Estonia on Monday.
I'd like to see him in our pre-season friendlies as well.

Need to start giving him a chance near the first team or he'll be off like Roman.

I think Mancini rates him highly and Suarez himself knows this and will have to trust the boss to play him and as and when.

Top prospect and so comfortable on the ball, great to see them Celebrating with the first team on that special day.

He must be very very close to getting a run out for cup games etc, along with Rekik.

Once again it's a question of what is best for their development. Do we need them right now in our squad ? If not, then should they be playing proper football every week on loan somewhere rather than reserve football ?

We desperately need a 'B' team. Not only City but this country, imo, needs the Prem clubs to have proper 'B' teams like Barca etc do. It's ok coaching these lads to play but they have to be doing it at a decent level every week & really it should be as part of a team, learning a passing method, not half a game for Coventry & 3 games for Oldham, under different managers with different methods.

Perhaps the new Premier reserve league will lead to a higher level. They should try to get it sponsored for decent prize money & on Sky or something.

Its a really tough one, as a football fan, i'd hate to see 'b' teams in the football league because of the massive damage it would do to smaller teams in the lower leagues, but as a City fan it would definitely be beneficial. I think the idea of promoting the reserve league isn't a bad idea, but we've opted out of that now for no real reason. I always thought clubs couldn't do both nextgen AND the reserve premier league, but apparently you can because Spurs and Villa did.

No idea why we opted out of the reserve league, it shafted us when we got knocked out of nextgen we hardly played any reserve games save for a few Manchester Senior Cup ones etc.

There is a new reserve league this season & I think we are in it if I'm not mistaken.

Hes a great prospect no doubt, but he needs to be given minutes within the first in order for him to develop his game IMO.

Or get a feeder club in the championship and send him on loan there.

The problem England faces, which countries like Spain and the Netherlands don't have, is that there's no chance for young players to grow.
Seriously, how many players have made it through the ranks the last few years, as opposed to players brought in from other countries?

I mean, of course, to become big European players. I mean, look at some of the players both countries have produced. It is all because of the amount of time they invest in young players and both countries have already got new rising stars coming through the ranks.

Can't believe I missed that. I had fuck all I had to do today & I checked out the schedule on Eurosport 2 days ago to see if it was on today, knowing I could watch it.

Bollocks.

Spain that is, not England.

well, no surprises from that England game. Hard-working and organised with good defending but precious little technical ability on show. Rode their luck and have to thank a hopeless french keeper for a 2-1 win.

Spain v France semi might be entertaining.

back on topic, I thought Suarez did OK today but nothing special.
Good positioning and finish for the goal, but he drifted in and out of the game without influencing it much.
Some good work tackling back but didn't look confident going forward. He is better than that performance.

Will he get a start in the semi against France ? I expect he'll be back on the bench.

Yeah. I actually think he does pretty fantastic job considering the amount of sports he has to cover.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
