Royle double promotion or Mancini FA Cup followed by league. Each crucial in the clubs development, which one is the most important?

You could argue to devalue either really - i.e Royle's double promotion should have only been a single promotion as we should have never been in division 2 anyway, as we weren't that shit....and Mancini's titles should have happened regardless cos of all the money etc...

Bearing that in mind its best not to try and pit one against the other. Contextually they're different, but both hugely important so i'm not gonna choose one over the other. Obviously 'most enjoyable' and 'most important' mean different things though...cos if it was the former its Mancini's every single time :)

I imagine that we'd be a middling championship club with a chairman without the funds to invest in us,trying to offload the club to anyone with or without a human rights violation on their rap sheet. We were days from administration under Thaskin.

We'd probably also heavily rely on our academy and Mee, McGivern, Trippier, etc would make up the bulk of our team.

The fans would probably make the best of travelling to long forgotten grounds of Hillsborough,Leeds, Huddersfield, Cardiff and... Millwall!

Crucial moments are littered throughout our history. Obviously the end goal was to win the title, so I don't think that can be called a critical step.

Promotion from 2nd division under Royle was absolutely vital as I don't think we'd be out of there now if we hadn't got promoted that season. Appointing Keegan after relegation in 2000/01 was again vital, there was a very positive buzz that we'd be coming straight back up. Signing Anelka when we did come back up made it easier to sign other players. Frank taking over from Wardle was a vital step as we had no money and were looking at administration, Wardle taking over could be seen as vital as well. Frank introduced City eventually to Sheikh Mansour. Buying Hart, Zabs and Kompany before the money show we have players here who cannot possibly be labelled as mercenaries, Buying Robinho for PR, Adebayor, Bridge, Bellamy, RSC laid the foundations of the current squad, all vital even the obvious mistake in that list.

I think if we over analyse things we could be spinning in circles for days, I prefer the "sit back, crack open beer and enjoy the rags raging about all the things we have done wrong" approach.

Lucky is an understatement! But was he not looking for a club with potential? Still I think deep deep down many of us still cant believe what has happened and deep deep down there are concerns or worries about what happens if the Sheikh pulls the plug..............gulp

Bang on ... and if we hadn't fleeced Chelsea for £21mil for SWP it's likely that we would be where we are now, if anywhere, as we were really on the brink (a bit like Chelsea were when Bates sold them) ... one of our biggest achievements was getting 30k+ crowds every week in the old 3rd division

Absolutely no fear of him pulling out, but even if he did, we won the FA Cup and the league. It'd be "Thanks for the memories, League One here we come."

Spot on. No way would he pull the plug, he is in for thelong haul as evidenced by them already talking about plans for the club for 2027 onwards! Also, he has put his money in as share capital not as loans so there is no plug to even pull. If he decided to sell us whoever bought us would simply be buying his shares! Shame some of our fans are buying the rag fantasies/scare stories on this...

If the foundations are built properly - and that's what I think is happening - we should hopefully get to the point where we are self-sustaining. Dare I say a bit like the rags? Success (and good infrastructure) should breed success.

This is where the Sheikh differs from certain other club owners.

We were close to complete financial and football disaster in div 2. We NEEDED to get out of there for numerous of reasons and left it to last seconds. We would have NEVER been in position for Sheik to be interested of buying us had we not got up back then. Had we not won FA Cup and/or league we would've done it in the future no problemo.

Therefore the back to back promotions were more important.

Every time I swipe myself through the turnstiles at The Etihad I cannot comprehend the enormity of change that has happened to my club in the last 10 years. From the Ali Bernabia and Eyal Berkovic phenomenon to lifting the Premier League trophy, the changes on and off the field have been a world away from my childhood memories of supporting City - the early exits from the FA Cup at Shrewsbury and Halifax, Steve Daly, Peter Barnes being sold to West Brom.
For me, the most important event is the Div2 play off final. Without winning that we wouldn't be where we are today. No City fan should ever forget it.
