It finishes on the 18th of August this year I think the day of our game against Southhampton.I just hope this year people don't start making threads like what does Yaya do if he don't start the season on fire because they might say he does not have the excuse of being weak from fasting.I think all of our team ,but Sergio seem to need a few games to get upto speed.

Dzeko was smashing them in at the start of last season so I don't think it matters to be honest.

Yaya can get on the dates and water at nighttime and make sure he's ready.

On the basis that he's going to be spending the next 10 days or so full time with the coaching and nutrition team from the club I'm pretty sure he won't need to be remotely "weakened" by his holy month.

And if, by the age he is now and having spent all his career as a muslim professional footballer, he cannot figure out how to take on board all he needs and keep his condition I'd be pretty disappointed in him.

It's absolutely zero mitigation for a slow start to the season....if he were spending every day in 40 degree temperatures I could give him some leeway but he'll mostly be in Manchester.

Also, I'm fairly certain that the Koran states that if to not eat or drink could cause you physical harm then you are not supposed to stick 100% to the fasting. So I'd be pretty certain he may take on board some fluids and light nutrition on days when they are training hard or playing.

Plenty of Catholic priests like to fuck little boys. They're still catholic.
Also, Bosnian Muslims tend not to follow the non-alcohol rules.

Pretty sure it's not specifically against the rules, as long as they don't use a condom. Bit like if you just banned the Welsh from shagging sheep, all you'd do is put goats at risk.

it's a fucking bullshit thread anyway...filled with conjecture, and inaccuracies, regarding pretty much everything he said.

Jon -- after telling me to "shut the fuck up" in the Lavezzi thread...you might want to have a cup of that yourself before doling it out to others. Think about it.

Don't think Dzeko fasts, apart from possibly a few 'token' days, and I know he drinks alcohol (in moderation).

Nool- interestingly enough, Bosnian Islam is from the Hanafi school, which used to permit drinking alcohol (taking a literal view of the Quran that only wine shouldn't be drunk), but generally doesn't today. Due to Bosnia's location within Europe, and relative isolation from Islamic cultural changes over the past century, the notion that it's acceptable to drink has stuck in the religion and culture to a certain extent.

Yeah the thing about Islam (in relation to this subject) is the fact that the Prophet said that alcohol was "haram" (edit...interesting BiB...I didn't know it specifically referenced wine) which is why Muslims by and large don't indulge in boozing.

BUT...the Koran said nothing about any narcotics so lots of people in this part of the world won't drink but will happily smoke weed (...or worse) and have no theological issue with that...even though in substance lots of those indulgences are more harmful to the body (which, in my interpretation, is what the Koran is saying is sacrosant so you shouldn't defile by boozing or, for example, being tattooed).

A bit like the fact for "Halal" meat cattle are slaughtered by having their throats slit and being bled out. At the time this was the most humane way to kill an animal with minimal distress. So the practice continues...even though there are nowadays much more humane ways of killing animals. The dogma of the book overrides all interpretation.
