seems like away fans are just as unimpressed. A well considered (if a little bit smug) response from a blue though. Is our pricing structured with away fans in mind, bearing in mind we are now one of the biggest away days of the season?

51 Pounds At Manchester City - Welcome To The Premier League
Wed 25th Jul 2012 12:31

Saints fans face the harsh realty of the cost of Premier league football on the opening weekend when they have to pay over fifty pounds for a ticket to see their side play Manchester City.

Of course this isnt the fault of Saints who merely exposed their supporters to this sort of ticket price by being promoted back to the Premier, but a ticket price like this somehow sticks in the throat, however if you are shocked at this figure then there is some good news, this price is for the upper tier, if you slum it in the lower then you can pay the much reduced sum of a mere £49, under 16's only have to pay a mere £27 whichever level and City thank their over 65's, the very group that followed them through 35 years or more of hurt and trophyless seasons by relieving them of a whopping £42, Ok only £40 in the lower level.

A look at the Manchester City website though does seem to throw up a discrepancy in price, the equivalent seats at the opposite end of the ground are much cheaper, only £45 & £43 depending on the level, Im sure that City have dressed up these prices within a membership scheme as I believe its against Premier rules to charge away fans differently to those in an equivalent seat in home areas and to be fair City fans in the same stand as us are charged the same price as us, assuming there are actually any individual tickets available and not all sold as season tickets.

Perhaps this would be easier to take if City hadnt spent so many years claiming to be the peoples club of Manchester, sadly they forgot all about this when grasping the middle eastern millions.

Today I became a firm advocate for introducing a rule where clubs have to charge visiting supporters the same price as their own fans would be charged when they visit the opposition, this being a bronze game we have probably got it cheaper than most other clubs in the league, but that doesnt make it right

I still remember when Rupert Lowe compained to the Premier League that we'd denied Southampton 3,000 tickets for the last ever game at Maine Road, We'd given them the Gene Kelly and they didn't even sell that out!

PL caved and forced us to give them cheap tickets for the first game at the new ground.

£45 in the away end. cheaper than in the home end by the sounds of it! What will we pay when we go to their place? minimum £40 easily!

I couldn't get SCs for the wife and daughter. Sold out. So.....I buy a Blue membership each and then add on for ticket priority. Then 28 and 51 quid for the tickets (daughter qualifies for 17-18 year olds discount) then 2.50 each for a booking fee. Ridiculous. Bigger stadium is needed, for sure.

good point chinners.

No.

It would be a catagory A game, so the same price.

But would it? I suspect a new A+ category would be invented, just like Chelsea did a few seasons back.

Well if so, that would be the time to complain about it, but personally I think treating the 1st game of the season as a catagory A is fair enough. All prices for football are too high but we have that bent twat Platini to blame fr every extra penny it costs us.

Yeah agree with all that. I'm alright (jack) as I have a ST but feel for those that don't, that is all.

It's FFP innit? Higher gate receipts make some contribution towards meeting the financial targets.

TOP MONEY EARNING CLUBS
1.....MADRID...£111.6M
2.....BARCA....£100M
3.....RAGS......£108.6M
4.....BAYERN....£65M
5.....ARSENAL...£93.1M
6.....CHELSEA...£67.5M
7.....MILAN......£32.1M
8.....INTER......£29.7M
9.....L'POOL.....£40.9M
10....SCHALKE...£33.6M
11....SPURS......£43.3M
12....CITY........£26.6M

The table above shows the match-day incomes of the top 12 richest clubs according to the last released Deloitte report. It clearly shows that although we may want a team to compete with the best, we are a million miles behind in match-day revenues.

A cursory glance at our balance sheets over the last few seasons shows a dramatic increase in the TV/broadcasting sectors and also in the commercial sector but hardly any increase in match-day revenues.

We are operating at a high percentage of attendance levels so unless we increase the stadium capacity, the only way to significantly increase match-day revenue is to increase ticket prices.

I agree with the sentiments posted....so...please.....Don't shoot the messenger.

Interesting. However, squeezing an extra 20% even out of that number adds only 5m to the bank balance. Or a month salary (less) for Yaya Toure. Ticket prices will do jack shit to what we need to to to keep pecking at the top table. Sponsorship and commercial deals, that's another story. To think I effectively paid, paid, paid and then paid again to watch Southampton is a joke. On top of my £630 SC. I'll keep paying it but others are going to get squeezed out and that is worth an award, Mr Platini. Gobshite!

Ticket prices combined with farce involved in getting them meant I almost didn't bother.

Couldn't get ticket for my nephew online so called ticket office only to have recorded message telling me I'd be cut off as the wait was approx two,and a half hours.

Called again around midday and eventually got through to be told that, irrespective of the glitch on the website, I'd have to pay the £2.50 booking fee per ticket - total of £80 before train

Still, all part of the plan to get the club at the top table in all respects.

I'm gutted tbh.Followed City since '68 and was a ST holder until a couple of years ago.A change in
my financial circumstances meant I had to give it up.Just about managed to scrape the money together for
most of last season's games but it now looks like my time is up. No way can I afford these prices, even if I
go on my own. Now I'll have to become the type of armchair supporter that I've ridiculed the rags for all these
years.

I've not renewed this year..can't justify it with two young ens

Just got a ticket for Southampton £54

I'll realistically go maybe 3 or 4 times this season at those prices including the derby

I'm gonna put a tenner a week away until next season from now and see if it's feasible to jump back on board next year

This. Feel for you fella. I can still afford my S/T thankfully. If I had to rely on tickets I'd be fucled this season. Looks like a few close match going mates will calling it a day on regularly attending now as well. It's a bittersweet situation really. The club is at last being successful but that in turn comes at a cost. I've been going for years home and away so I'll be damned if I have to pay any extra cost to the cause, they still owe me I reckon. Once I let my S/T go that last sentence of yours will be me on a permanant basis sadly. On the plus side the price is going to only increase 0.2% a season for the next 10 years .... hopefully thats not just me talking bollox ;)

I honestly feel for everyone who's lived through the shit and is priced out or in danger of being so at this stage. It is gutting.

But the club has little choice in the face of Twatini's "level playing field" balls. The hope for affordability for people on that cusp of unaffordability is that the owner extends the stadium pronto and really uses corporate/fancy sections a la Arsenal to really maximise the revenue base whilst also maintaining financially accessible pricing sections (ie not a la Arsenal) which will keep local real fans involved on match days and also keep the passion and atmosphere in the ground.

It's potentially a shitty tradeoff for lifelong blues though currently

If you just managed to scrape together the money to go to every game last season you'd have been better of getting a ST through Zebra and paying by DD, you'd have saved a fortune
