Ditching Players

Ditching Players

Postby Piccsnumberoneblue » Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:19 am

Besides the hike in ticket prices, another unfortunate effect of FFP seems to be the necessity to get rid of players on big money from the wage bill.
Other clubs know of our need to move on RSC, Bridge, Adebayor etc in order to bolster the squad further, and can drive a harder bargain. This in turn has the consequence of us losing more money.
So you end up with a situation where the call to balance the books actually encourages further losses.
I know it can sometimes be difficult to foresee the way things will pan out, but FFP seems more and more ill conceived and self defeating with every day.
I'm sure without Platini's brainchild we wouldn't be quite so hamstrung in regard to the evolution of the squad. Adebayor would actually be an attractive proposition to many clubs, and as we are hardly skint, we wouldn't be so keen to take any offer to see the back of him.
When I think of Platini's stated desire to take on G14 clubs upon his appointment, it makes me sick to see him doing their bidding for them. That twat from Bayern was on about us again the other day, urging the French fart to get into us again.

If they were signed before FFP, they don't count towards it.

Getting rid of such pre FFP players is just good house keeping.

There is dispensation to not count the wages of contracts signed before a certain date but there is no such relief for amortisation of players, so it is still partly FFP driven...

Presumably it's not a problem that is going to go away though.

Agreed on that Piccs. If you are Santa Snooze, Adebayor etc and you are on X amount, why would you just give up say 30% of it to join another club, when you know you can ride it out and wait till Aug 31st and get a better deal? Answer is you wouldnt. To modern footballers, football is a job and there is little or no loyalty to fans, love of the club etc. Harsh reality is that 99 times out of 100 it boils down to ££

Hopefully the days of us signing average players on huge salaries are over, now that we are the top club in England, so this shouldn't be as much of a problem in the future. I still can't believe how clubs like chelsea and psg are going to get around the ffp regulations though

The hike was the first game which caused a reaction, which is understandable. Now we know that normal games are standard pricing and premium games are dearer (only fair), I think City missed a PR trick by not providing this info when the southampton game went on sale. Still its not fair on saints fans, unless we are giving QPR special dispensation for some reason :-)

Yeah, I did see the Saints prices, ridiculous if you ask me. Welcome to the Prem!

You could have a point or 3 with the QPR thing.

Ah well ;-)

so back to square one: do we have a good house keeper?
bloody not: we have an average tv pundit called football administrator.

wait, it could be worser. he could be a scar faced called Hansen and be a scouser legend... :-)

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

Also if amortisation counts for FFP then income from sales of players does to... Definitely FFP driven as well as good housekeeping. Sadly many of the clubs we are trying to offload to also have to consider FFP...

We had to pay over the odds wages in order to persuade these players to sign for City because we weren't a fashionable club to sign for at the time. They, quite rightly, don't see why they should take a cut in wages, when they have been ready & willing to play for the club & have been discarded.

The clubs who are interested in them do not pay wages of that level & the players involved are not good enough to merit those clubs breaking their pay structure, so either City, or the player, has to sacrifice money in order for them to move on.

That's why we can't shift them.

Bridge & Kolo came from Premier League winning sides. No chance either would have moved without a big pay increase.

If he was really serious about reigning in spending, he should start with the actual problem. Redistribute tv rights from all competitions to better aid the lower clubs, offer higher protection and compensation for smaller clubs with good youngsters, cap all wages on every contract signed after a specified date.

In essence, he needs to fuck up this G14 bullshit and then he'd see the solutions to his problems with overspending.

Reining not reigning. Otherwise largely agree although a wage cap wouldn't work.

Doing something about people buying clubs by going into huge debt, then using said club's money to pay said debt, would surely be one of the first things on the agenda, rather than specifically allowing for it in the rules.

Absolutely. FFP is NOT the answer. I don't think wage caps are either. (Check out Superleague and Bradford Bulls plight)
The only way is the redistribution of money. Football has never had more cash but so many clubs are in trouble. The players will always hoover up the lucre. Problem is, to achieve this the F.A and Uefa would have to take on the big clubs head on. Not a chance I'm afraid. They don't believe they would win. I actually think they would and that the appetite for breakaway Elite leagues is not as strong as some would have us believe.

I think the reserve league which City, Barca etc have entered is worrying them enormously as it's a dry run for a full scale breakaway.
