The Community Shield

Can we please decide before the game whether it is a legitimate trophy? Bear in mind that it was the only thing the rags won last season. If it's a trophy, they didn't go trophyless. If it's not a trophy then they were barren. I would hate to have our blues contradicting themselves if we win today.

My opinion is that it's a shield, not a trophy. Therefore the rags went trophyless last season. If we win it today, it's great but no big deal.

It used to be a lot more meaningful. That's not much use, I know. Sadly, it's basically a trumped up pre-season game. 3 points next week is much more significant. Just my view.

It's a pre-season friendly game with all proceeds going to local communities and charities by way of all clubs who competed in the FA Cup.

In short it's a fund-raiser, and a worthy one at that.

would like to win it, that being said, I want us to win every game, friendly or not.

For me it is a serious game, only because at this point we should be ready to go for the season opener and this is against a quality team, who have built up a lot for the upcoming season. I'm not going to be gloom and doom for the season if we don't win, but I think there are things to be learned from this game, more so than a normal friendly. It will be interesting though as our full squad have not played at all together in pre-season.

And they probably won't again today. Dave and Mario on the bench, Joe, Barry and Vince probably out with injury, we could see a few of our Academy/younger players out there today.

Would be great to see Razak play a part with Silva and Barry both out.

City boss Roberto Mancini this week. "But it is important that we try to win because we have not won this cup for a long time and we want to start the season with a victory."

He also went on to say that if he'd know he'll win PL by losing this then he'd rather lose this, so importance clarified too, but nevertheless gaffer thinks its a 'cup' ...

Silverware if we win, not if we lose ... isn't that always the case with every club who loses or wins no matter who that is? Trust me, people here and even the officials at the club will call it adding silverware if we win it and will downplay if we don't. Chelsea would do the same ...

Won't have a bus parade for this but just like FA Cup is bigger than League Cup, each shiny thing has its own place ... this might the least important of them all, but is a shiny thing!

I'll be a bit disappointed if a scratch side of ours can't beatthis lot tbh. Unless Savic is playing, in which case anything within 3 goals is a bonus.

The Montenegran women's handball team had a player called Savic last night. Early on, she dropped the ball under no pressure & it hit her on the shin & went to the oppo. Tbf she was good after that but it didn't matter by then, I was still in hysterics.

Who's vhero? What's the background? No I am not him or her or whatever that is ...

Maybe I should have introduced myself to the forum first ... but then I thought my intro would be how old, my gender, my background, what I do, how long supporting city etc etc ... but then none of that matters so I kind of skipped that and just jumped right into saying whatever I think ...

Maybe you should start a thread Who is AG7, lol, and have all so interested guess the intro missing bits ... I can't imagine any of you getting anything right about anything ...
