Can we expect lots of moaning in the media about young English talent like Welbeck rotting on the bench?

Thought not.

Thank god this bloody saga has come to a palatable end, would not have been happy if we'd paid £24m for a 29 year old.Reckon he'll improve the rags but doubt he'll get through a second season in a row injury free, then this transfer will be put into perspective value for money wise.

I agree entirely with this. I think Arsenal were hoping & hoping that we would cough up that kind of money but I think £18-20 was our top whack & that was £5 mil more than we wanted to pay. For them to sell to a team they are trying to overtake, is pathetic. They are a disgrace of a club.

It's undoubtedly the case that this is a terrific signing for the rags though, IF he stays fit & IF he plays at the the same level as last season. He has never managed to do either in the rest of his career & looked to have dropped back a level in the Euros & at the end of last season.

Was there a player more suited to the rags since Rooney signed though ? Obnoxious, big headed, whinging, rapist, cheat. Ticks all the boxes.

Just imagine, if he goes there to win stuff, & never wins anything. Would that not be the greatest thing ever ?

He's a Cunt, and you know it. Go on Ted, we're not getting him now, let it out.

If you say he's not, you'll get the wrath sunshine, he's a cunt, a fucking cunt!

Eh ? Wtf ?

I was cunting Van Persie on here 6 months ago. I've never wanted the cunt anymore than I want Ronaldo. It would have really spoiled watching City if that piece of shit was wearing our shirt.

It's Mancini who wanted him not me. I hope he's not going to make Dzeko suffer for not leaving in time.

I knew it, the Cunt, you were all over it!

And that's what I was saying bud, it's not a Dzeko thing. It's wrong mate, just wrong.

I'll find it a lot easier to jeer him than I would to cheer him.Seriously, he hates City, he never stopped signing at us in the Ade game. Stamping on his fucking head was one of the few worthwhile things Ade ever did.But lets not miss the point. Mancini wanted this bloke, the suits didn't.Full marks to the suits I say.

Man City never followed up on an initial inquiry about new United signing Robin van Persie and didn't make a formal bid. [Sky Sports]

I remember writing something about Mancini sitting in his office slowly sipping Red Wine little by little and saying ... eez normal, we only show interest to increase price for them over there for that old, I meeeen old Trafford ... So Mancini will be pissed, or at least he will pretend he is and that might spur us into action ... he might convince Khaldoon and others that now it is imperative for us to get stronger else they over the other side really mean business this year and last year's margin was very thin to hold on to ... Cavani anyone? or that Llronte guy who has just RVP'd his club in Spain?

On another note, twitter rumour mill is saying we are in for Piqué from Barca and have conveyed we are happy to pay big for him ... what a signing that will be if true and if we can pull it off?

Let's be honest, it's a good signing in general terms BUT they've overpaid and he isn't the player they need.

Their problem is in the middle of the park and they'll keep struggling there with the money having gone on a striker that simply isn't needed with Rooeny, Welbeck and Hernandez all there. Fletcher is fecked, Anderson is fucking awful, Park is gone, Giggs and Scholes are past it which leaves only Carrick and stop gap Jones. Not good enough and they'll be murdered by top teams, i.e. us.

Also, never again can they whinge about us paying big bucks to get a player. Happy days, especially when I'm happy with our four strikers. RVP would've just upset that balance we have.

More proof if ever was needed that THE DRUNKEN TRAMP IS A LIAR.

Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed to a new Old Trafford transfer strategy under which no players aged 26 or over will be signed on major deals by Manchester United – a move which explains why Franck Ribéry and Kaka have not been on the club's radar this summer and why Lyons' Karim Benzema might be.

Ferguson and the United chief executive, David Gill, are understood to have reached an agreement with their club's owners, the Glazer family, that the poor resale value of players purchased on five-year deals in their late 20s militates in favour of buying younger. It means that the likes of last summer's £31m lay-out for the then 27-year-old Dimitar Berbatov will not occur again, in Ferguson's reign at least; that Carlos Tevez, now 25, represents the top end of the age scale; and that United are not interested in the 26-year-old Ribéry.

The model – in which age is an over-riding consideration – certainly supports the pursuit of Lyons' 21-year-old striker Benzema, who is a perfect fit: a player in his early 20s with proven pedigree at the highest level. There remain no firm indications, however, that a player Ferguson has long admired is actually one of his targets and a general feeling persists that the €50m (£42m) price tag is excessive.

Another in the same age bracket as Benzema when United hired him was Michael Carrick, who was 24 when he arrived from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 and his development into a profoundly influential player for Ferguson is regarded by him and Gill as the model United are striving for.

The agreement between the Glazers and their two most significant employees reflects the fact that the American owners, with their £650m debt to consider, must view player acquisitions as financial investments. Ferguson remarked last season on the way that Liverpool's Rafael Benitez had outspent him on players who had come and gone from Anfield. The Glazers are understood to have a £50m sum available for Ferguson this summer though a quantity of that is for "a rainy day", as one informed source has put it.

The resale value of Cristiano Ronaldo – which brought a £68m profit to United – reflects the wisdom of buying relatively young players and means that Ferguson has less need to dip into the £50m reserve. Increasingly in the past four or five years, Ferguson has bought young. Wayne Rooney, Nani and Anderson are all also players who have emerged having been signed aged 23 or under – hence the manager's contentment with a strategy which is a reaffirmation of his work.

Wigan Athletic's Luis Antonio Valencia is another 23-year-old they have in their sights – United officials will meet the Wigan chairman, Dave Whelan later this week to discuss buying the winger, Whelan revealed yesterday. But Ribéry does not appear to be a player they are seeking as a replacement for Ronaldo, despite the oblique hint yesterday by the Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, that an offer had been lodged for the midfielder. "There are clubs that have come to us with offers. Chelsea's bid has already been reported, and there's also Manchester United and Barcelona," Rummenigge said.

Chelsea do not, as yet, present a threat to United's attempts to hold onto Tevez. The west London club consider the £25.5m figure required to buy him excessive and are keener on pursuing Ribéry.

I think it has a hint of desperation about it and as commented on before I don't think they would have made a move for him if we hadn't won the title. They have turned their much trumpeted transfer policy on it's head as they were fearful of falling behind.
On the negative side, he is a fine striker and will give them a boost, perhaps help flog some of those unsold season tickets.
However on the plus side, they have spunked what bit of cash they had on an old injury prone crock. I reckon £24m + circa £40m over the contract. His resale value will be limited and if he doesn't do well there, it will be an even tougher job to shift him than we're having with Adebayor. Also, I always hated the little shit and now I have a proper reason for it.
I didn't really want him with us but I think I'd have preferred him elsewhere like many others. But it could be a gamble that proves very costly to them, which is nice.

And are any bookies offering a rate on which of the two will get injured first ...

This will soon blow in their face, I can feel it!

I think thats about it there.

But while we are stronger up front and in the middle, on par at the back(if vidic stays fit), we are weaker on the flanks. Not arsed about losing RVP, as long as we sign a fucking winger.
