MARK HUGHES THREAD (all hughes opinions in here please)

Postby Wonderwall » Mon Nov 16, 2009 11:04 am

This thread has been created with the intent to stop the board being filled with nonsense posts about the manager. If you want to debate the manager, then please keep it in here.

Good idea.
I dont think he is anywhere near good enough for what we want.
I'm not impressed with half the players he has bought.

He is top. Seems like a genuinely nice bloke and he's got cojones. Takes no shit and seems to dislike Taggart....that's good enough for me. I am so over his murky past.

Also, lots of the posters I think are total tools appear to really dislike him and want him out of the club....so it's rather amusing that he looks set to be here for some time yet.

Defeats to Liverpool and Chelsea in our next three games will probably put us in the bottom half of the table depending on how we do against Hull in between, will you be so confident of him having a secure future after that? Remember we've had a fairly easy start (Rags and Arse apart), this is when we really start to see just how good Mr Sparkless's squad really is! ;-)

I disagree on the easy start. I dont go for all this easy run in and easy month or not a bad Xmas run etc etc. This is the premiership where newly promoted BURNLEY who were not given a hope in hell have beaten the prem champions and are doing fine at the moment. Any team can lose against anyone in this league so each game as it comes.

Having watched all the interviews with all parties and seen the guy first hand at the BBQ in AD I have to say that he still looks very relaxed and everything I've seen makes me believe that the chairman and the sheikh still have 100% confidence in him being the right man for the job.

We've spent £200m on players and EVERYONE in football and the press was harping on about how it would take time for them to gel and yet all of a sudden people are acting shocked at the fact that is exactly what is happening. From the OS interview in AD it certainly looks like the spending isn't over yet, "we still have quality to add to the squad" and despite the massive outlay so far we were still hit hard by recent injuries proving that overall the squad isn't quite there yet. In addition if you look at the amount of change going on off the pitch it is hard to see how this could happen without causing slight distraction.

I still can't bring myself to full on like the guy, my gf couldn't understand why I didn't want my photo taken with him at the BBQ but to me he is still "ex united player Mark Hughes". I think he's here to stay and I've already warmed to him somewhat (he handles the press well and has a good sense of humour) and that will no doubt increase when he delivers success on the pitch, which I now firmly believe he is capable of given time to mould the team.

He has been a winner all his career and has a fantastic record. He seems tough and wants to do it his way. He was a rag yes but if he can transfer the mentality of the rag side he played in to our squad then great. He seems to get under Taggarts skin also which is a good sign.
Also we have lost one game all season and it is now mid November. Can anyone remember that happening before? Has it?

City have never had steel or been hard to beat in my lifetime. If he can put that in place it would be a fantastic platform considering the attacking players we have.

No knee jerk crap please. Bacon face was in his job years before he won anything.

This is a great Idea, thanks WW (I'm sure you'll still get the clowns who whant to see their name and boost thier fragile egos creat new threads - but hopefully in general its goinna keep the place tidy) :-)

In general I pretty much plant myself on the fence, I didnt want Hughes as manager when he was first rumoured to be coming but equally didnt see Sven as the 'new messiah' so knew that we needed a change (plus I dont think Sven was ever here for the long term anyway!)

Mates were split and some even stopped going, the affect I had feared - because of his past - this was allways going to cause rifts and an uneasy feeling at the club and with supporters.

However when he became our manager I supported him, put all the angst against him to the side and supported him and the team and still do (even shook his hand on the way down to the Villa game - his first in charge - when I bumped into him and the team in the services the day before!) After Individal matches I'll have a pop due to the performances but then the next game is a clean sheet and I'll go through brick walls for City.

What I can see is that we've currently drawn with teams that have beaten 'the sky 4' and lost against the scum due to silly mistakes and dodgy whatches - but we've got holes and I see work thats on going to fill those.

We're a team going through massive change, its organic and won't evolve overnight - he's bought very good players in and now the real test is making the team take shape. He's got the hardest job in Premier league right now - I have no doubt about that one.

He seems to do everything right but the football in my opinion. Good transfers, looks good and calm in front of the press, the club is moving forward in most departments, but when it comes down to the football, far too often it just doesnt seem good enough.

Neither like or dislike him so far and will only form opinions based on what he does rather than who he was. I like his vision for the club and his policy to get us there, all that still remains unknown is his ability to integrate and impose his plan and create a winning team in the medium term.

However, during this time of dramatic on and off the field change, we need 'A MANAGER' who must be given money and time to put his plan into operation, attempt to play around and correct it where necessary and have the full backing of the owners to see things through to whatever the eventual conclusion may be.

Yep, I'm still PRO STABILITY and as MH is the incumbant man in the position, he should be backed to the hilt by owners, management, players .... AND FANS!

If we are outside of the top 8 by the end of this season and outside the top 4 by the end of next ..... then we should, and probably will, see someone else having a go.

Until any of that occurs ..... let him get on with it. in the meantime, we still play attractive football, so at least it is worth watching.
Relax ... It's only a message board in hyperspace!!

I feel sorry for him because he keeps being told by non talented media and pundits that "You can`t buy success and they need time to gel" and then it`s "With all that money why aren`t you winning?" Which one is it? Maybe the pundits and journos should be sacked cos they`re making a right fuck up of their jobs week in week out. For now I`m behind him and would rather draw than lose to go with the 3 points that we will inevitabely pick up along the way...starting Saturday.

True dat. People can claim to know whether he will succeed of fail but noone actually knows, despite some of the posters who claim otherwise.

Glad this thread is here, I won't be entering it again.... :)

I'm really warming to MH this season, like his purchases who are all good premiership style players, handles the press well and I think we will soon be back to winning ways.

4 draws on the bounce is no reason to panic especially given the injuries and suspensions we've had to deal with.....back him and all will be good!!

Top 4 finish here we come!! ;0)

PS. I don't give a flying fuck that he played for the enemy!!
