So it happened after all!

This should lead to Tricky Burgerstain taking at least part of Marwood's role & quieten some of the relentless whingeing (& he'll be telling Mancini 'no' on a regular basis as per instruction).

Good to see we got our man (if it was ever in doubt). Let's just hope he doesn't do a SpanAir on us ;-)

Welcome to Manchester Ferran!

I'm sure he was always one of the first names on our short-list and I don't think we could've done much better.

This could be the biggest signing of the summer.

Manchester City Football Club is pleased to announce that Ferran Soriano, former Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Futbol Club Barcelona, has been appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective from September 1st 2012.
Ferran has worked for several multinational companies across Europe and America and has more than 20 years of strategic consultancy and executive experience in football, telecommunications, consumer goods and aviation.

Speaking of the appointment, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said, “The process of finding a Chief Executive Officer has been deliberate, far reaching and exhaustive. In Ferran we have our preferred candidate. His experience in football and in the wider commercial world make him exceptionally well equipped to lead Manchester City through its continued evolution.

It is important to recognise and thank the Board, the Executive Leadership Team and in particular, Interim Chief Executive, John MacBeath, for their hard work during the search period.”

Ferran Soriano said, “I am delighted to take up the position of Chief Executive Officer of Manchester City Football Club. The vision of the owner together with his commitment, and that of the Chairman and Board, make this opportunity absolutely compelling.

The Club has incredible potential to be fulfilled both on and off the field. I very much look forward to playing my part to ensure that happens.”

The circumstances of Ferran’s previous responsibilities were such that he wished existing commitments to be honoured and he was therefore not available to Manchester City Football Club for some time after his identification as the preferred candidate.

During his time at Barcelona, Ferran led and managed the Club’s turnaround from revenues of €123 million and losses of €73million to €308 million revenue and €88 million cumulated profit within five years. He also oversaw some of the biggest commercial and media deals in the industry and devised fan acquisition and relationship models and concepts for real estate development.

The announcement follows the appointment of Tom Glick in the newly created role of Chief Commercial and Operating Officer. Tom takes up his position from August 20th. Ferran and Tom have been working closely together with senior figures at the football club in order to ensure the smoothest of transitions.
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

What an appointment! That's the kind of CV I'm sure owners are expecting in every level of the organization. I don't think there were many people more qualified in business world.

This is kind of the point I was trying to make in Marwood discussions. He simply doesn't have this sort of CV and experience in his own role and that's why, without results, I think he will be under pressure.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I would expect his mate to be given a job now, as his contacts are second to none, but what will it say about Marwood if that doesn't happen ?

It would say that he is really REALLY respected in organization (and by Khaldoon especially) if that was to happen. Mancini doesn't like him and he was Cook's boy who is gone now so I doubt he has many friends right now. I don't think he will be sacked immediately though. I doubt they'd do that. But I think it will happen in next 6 to 12 months. I'm not 100% sure about Beguiristain (fuck me if I spelled that right) though. It seems too much of 1+1=3 to me. I do think Sorriano and Khaldoon will bring another DoF but I think they will make sure it's someone Mancini can operate with since it's quite clear we are committed to Mancini's way for long term(and god damn rightly so).

I think Mancini would like his own man in that position but personally, I don't think he should get his wish. One of Marwood's jobs is to take the shit for anything Khaldoon does which is unpopular (as with him & Cook when Hughes was sacked).

Somebody has to be a buffer between Mancini & Khaldoon, as Khaldoon controls the purse strings. Otherwise, if Mancini has a pal working above him, when Khaldoon tells that person he can't have 50 mil to spend on Cavani, Mancini will be moaning directly at Khaldoon rather than his mate.

That results in the sack & he's got previous for that kind of bust up.

we need one team. Given the unique the position we're in, it's natural to have some push and pull but there has to be a foundation of respect, and Mancini clearly doesn't and won't ever respect Marwood. What's Marwood done in his career to make Mancini think "Oh, i better listen to this genius, because he _______________________."

someone has to be brought in that Mancini has to respect due to his credentials and qualifications based upon football success. Only then can we have that balance which you covet, and rightly so.

Mancini's respect/approval of the DoF should be incidental, the position should be filled by the person who is best for the club (in otherwords best for the Sheikh) - if it happens to be someone Mancini can respect then that's a bonus not a requirement.
