Cheers for the info folks.
It looks like it's down to how much we think DeRossi is worth. He could easily have said he's not going anywhere & made it impossible for Roma to cash in, but he's chosen the 'I'll only leave if the club sell me' routine, just like Agger.
Up to HRH now to decide.
If its up to HRH then what fucking job does Marwood have? Just to run to daddy Everytime something might happen? He should have a budget and approved targets and do the work of the work to get them done or move onto alternates etc. this isn't schoolboy playground shit. And it's also not rocket surgery.
I am so confused by the nutless, ruderless transfer window that is this summer.
If Marwood is some cardboard cutout who is totally toothless then Mancini should push to own the transfer business and just deal with khaldoon and the sheik on his own. Couldn't be worse.
He does the donkeywork & they control the purse strings. The examples & quotes are all out there if you look for it. I've quoted plenty of examples on here but people just skip over it & continue as if I made it up.
Soriano may get to have more control but I recon HRH has the final say on every major transfer.

what's a "major transfer"? something over 20M?
i just don't believe he has the time to be that involved. Khaldoon either. Seems ludicrous to me. You hire people to do a job....footballing people. WTF do the Sheik and Khaldoon know about football transfers? Seriously. Might as well let Ant and I fucking decide.
I'm not trying to argue for the sake of it, but...i just don't get what's happening structurally.
Here's what i would put this down to maybe...new guy's coming in, and everyone's trying to rush into space, show their worth or is fearful of fucking something up so it's created this vacuum/power struggle between Marwood and Mancini.
What do you think of that assessment?
i can't understand why it would be as goofy as it is otherwise...
cheers

Imo, Khaldoon is the eyes & ears of HRH at MCFC.
I think Mancini, like Keegan, would spend every last cent that there is in Abu Dhabi, on players if he got the ok to do so as it's not his problem, he just deals with the team & bollocks to the rest.
HRH likes to be kept in the loop about everything & Khaldoon is his man. When he first took over, every single transfer had to go through HRH personally, so if he was busy, we had to wait until he was available before doing any deals. Nowardays I think he's delegated some of that to Khaldoon so we can operate quickly & Khaldoon uses Marwood & his mob to set it all up, then oks it. On some occasions he & even HRH, speak to players personally, as with Tevez.
According to the general leaks to the press, Hughes was supposed to report to Khaldoon (not Marwood) after every game but didn't. One of the reasons he was fired.
Khaldoon decided what happened with Tevez, not Bob, not Marwood. Khaldoon & Co signed Robinho. Khaldoon stated pre season that we wouldn't be doing lots of business & had to shift a lot of players. HRH said we would sign a couple & get rid of players if we got good offers. Not give them away but get the best deals. Mancini said he wanted loads of players. Marwood said nothing much at all.
When the philosophy of Khaldoon & Mancini clashed, he said 'talk to Brian' because he is the bloke Khaldoon uses to do his work.
I recon that Marwood doesn't give a fuck about his own pr. He just gets on with it quietly, so anyone can say what they like about him & he never replies. Cook would be on the radio/TV every day for a week covering his own arse & Mancini is similar.
Marwood just takes it & gets on with it & creates a buffer/whinge zone between Mancini & the bosses.
He is also putting together the academy & probably involved in signing young players; something which may be outside Mancini's remit but may be Vieira's domain, I don't know.
Somebody like Tricky Burgerstain would probably get things done better because of his standing in Europe but I don't believe Marwood is looked upon as a mug by his opposite numbers.
Just to add. Soriano, at Barca, (not Burgerstain) agreed terms with Beckham. Beckham went to Real Madrid.
People would see that as failure if it was Marwood yet we have just appointed the bloke.

suppose, just suppose, that it's not Marwood, it's John, Roger, Tony, Wayne, the plumber, the butcher, the baker.... not a sporting director with a previous solid profesisonal experience who made him eligible for the position at a leading football club.
we can go on up to infinite standing on each other fence. FFS we have passed away the Ted Hughes and BBS thread, why on the hell can't we stop talking shite about a secretary?
the positions of debate have been granted and cleared:
one side would love to have a TOP PROFESSIONAL of the position in charge, as well as we have Sergio to lead the strike force and Vinnie to shield the shield (Joe) of the goal
the other side is more ecumenical, live in the peace of believe that Khaldoon can stop attending one of the countless Board Meetings he is scheduled in, week in and week out, and undertake executive tasks.
OK.
can we stop hacking every single thread and keep enjoying the best football of the world, played by some of the best footballers and backed by the best ownership in the world, for the sake and glory of God's Own Club?
the arguments are getting everyday more petty, hence not up to our quality... imho.
PeterParker wrote:I tend to agree with Ted on what he said, but i might add this:
I am really sure that Bobby was asked to start promoting youngsters to the squad, like Suarez, Rekik, etc. The board did all that they could to bring the best youngsters in the world here, to train them to become better and better so we would need to pay a shit load of money on players and have sagas every summer. That would be the best solution for us.
As for his summer, they could have a go at Sneijder. I think it could be much easier to buy him now, than it was last summer.
