The Cisse signing at least was inspired. His seven or eight league goals (including a couple of winners) at the back end of last season were priceless. I agree that they're signing players at an unsustainable rate. Still, if they have the money then why not take the risk? They won't qualify for Europe so FFP isn't a worry yet. By the time it might be, the contracts of the deadwood will have run out and the wage bill will be much lighter. I'm sure they've bought enough quality comfortably to stay up this year. The first day always generates freak results.

They need to fuck off Adel Taarabt. How many promising attacks end with him doing something selfish and stupid?

Especially the "up and coming young manager" thing. At 48, you'd think he would be in experienced manager category. But no, he is and will forever be "one for the future". At the same time Roberto Mancini, year younger, is widely considered very experienced.

I think Hughes transfer policy relies on signing a load of players and hoping that a couple turn out to be good. The rest fall by the way side, are on massive wages, and ultimately do little to help a clubs financial posistion.

Perfect case example are ourselves. For every Zabaleta, Kompany and De Jong, there are numerous Adeabyors, Santa Cruz's, Bridge, Ben Haim, etc etc.

And what has all this got him? An opening day thumping at the hands of Swansea. If you sign a whole new team, even on Football Manager, it takes a long time to gel. Simpleton Hughes hasn't quite got the hang of this just yet.

His loyalty to the Welsh Mafia of Bowen et al is admirable on a personal level, but in a professional environment has to be questioned. Their defending on Saturday was some of the worst I have ever seen in the Premiership.

So so glad that he is no longer with us and we have a manager with a Plan B. The manner of his dismissal left a lot to be desired, but the decision was certainly the correct one. There wouldnt be a chance in hell of us winning the title with him in charge.

But other than that, he is alright.....

Mancini has had his share of crap signings too. Every single manager does.

Thats what prompted me to start the thread.He has already stock piled the strikers and is moving for defenders now with moves for Dawson and Carvalho.I predict another half dozen in at Loftus road by the end of the window.

Heard a great stat about Cisse the other day, when they signed him last season, he played in 8 games, scored in 6, got sent off in the other 2. Well, mildly interesting stat. Anyway, be nice if the QPR and City fans could all join together in a big Hughes out chant when we play them soon, preferably when we're 6-0 up.

it is a very good back 4 for a team that were very nearly relegated last season imo

not saying he's a decent manager - he was crap for us and wasted a lot of money, that can't be denied - but with a limited budget he's proven that he can put together a good side imo, defensively at least, don't forget he signed komps and zabba before the takeover

I think I'm going to open myself up to shame and abuse here, but ah well.

I never said Hughes was amazing, but at the time of his sacking I considered it a tad harsh and honestly thought he may have got it right eventually.

I hereby admit that the haters were right and I now consider him a rubbish manager. I never thought he was anything special (don't consider myself a licker by any stretch), but even considering him decent was far fetched with hindsight. B
