Even a half fit half cut AJ is better than Downing....says it all that pool wanted him. A proper winger but a move is best all round really....hopefully he will thrive at sunderland and get a run in the england side...all the best johnno

Good riddance, I'm glad to see the club finally trimming the excess wastage off the wage bill.

He is grossly overated by both blues and non-blues and his ability to find so many goals from anywhere on the pitch is a myth (11 in 2 1/2 years is not impressive by any wingers standard) his ability and technique is reputed to be at a level far more advanced than his true capability and his pace is also grossly overated, the fastest I can remember him moving was when he went down the tunnel for a shit during the salzburg game.

The news of him going is the best bit of transfer news I've heard all summer.

Just in case of any confusion it's Adam Johnson not Lee Croft that we've just sold

As already recalled, he could have turned in to our Giggs but couldn't arsed.
football is full of samples of unfulfilled talents, expecially in the modern footy I only saw one case where feet had been as supreme as to prevail over lack of brain and character: Diego Armando Maradona.

Good luck AJ. wish You'll have fun with Youth Mates at bithplace pubs.

Now thats downright disrespectful. Holden never beat his man but AJ did. I am sure beckscum modelled himself on holden but he learnt to get crosses in even though he couldnt beat an egg.

Good luck AJ....overall a disappointing period at City mainly due to the promise of just how much better he could have been. Some class goals though and wish him very well in the future.

What is more disappointing are the piss poor efforts of that leather-faced cretin. Can't even close the deal for bloody Scott Sinclair who clearly wants to come and isn't making it difficult. Get the waste of space out of the club....Sharon could probably close that one

I wasnt stupid enough to fall for Lee Croft either, I guess I just dont get over excited over poor players just because they're young and english in the way a lot of people do on here, I dont listen to other opinions, I just look at overall contribution and output on the pitch.

Sorry, was away from the PC.

He talks about needing more players for the Chump's League & for the Jan period.

Then he's basically hinting that there is a chance we may still get DeRossi ( when they ask him if he's convinced DeRossi is staying he says "it's a difficult situation but I don't know what can happen" & says "when the window is open, everything can happen" with a sly smile on his face.. He mentions that 'we' talked about Jack Rodwell two years ago & he thinks he will be one of the best midfielders in England. He is also hopeful of more signings & when they ask him how many, he says the same targets we at the end of last season.

When they try to get him going on why we haven't signed players he says "the market was really difficult for us, it's more difficult because every club, when they talk with us, start from £30 / £40 million, this was not correct , every player can have a price, maybe we can pay more but not too much ".

No to Agger. No to Maicon.

The Daily Star reports that press conference like this:

ROBERTO MANCINI says his multi-million pound Manchester City squad cannot compete this season.

Mancini has made only one summer signing and is without injured star striker Sergio Aguero.

The Italian boss also missed out on Roma’s Daniele De Rossi this week and has been told to sell before he can buy again. And while City have stood still, title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea have splashed the cash to improve their squads.

Mancini insists his champions are now not strong enough to fight on all fronts this season.

City go to Liverpool tomorrow and Mancini said: “We need to improve for the Champions League.

“In the Premier League you can lose one game, or lose one goal. You can make mistakes but you have time to recover from them. In the Champions League this is not the case.

“The reason I want to improve now is because I want to improve for the Champions League.”

Mancini has publicly criticised sporting director Brian Marwood for the club’s lack of signings.

This week Emmanuel Adebayor finally joined Tottenham and Adam Johnson moved to Sunderland.

But Mancini said: “We can’t sell a player if we don’t buy others because we won’t have enough players. We have 19 and two or three injured. It’s impossible.”

And after that press conference this is how the Mail sees it.

Mark Ryan

Roberto Mancini could quit as Manchester City boss inside a year if he doesn’t receive the backing he requires.

Sportsmail understands he is unlikely to see out his recently-signed contract if he continues to be left high and dry over new signings.

A source close to Mancini said: ‘He has three targets before the window closes — Daniele De Rossi, Maicon and Stevan Jovetic.

'We will see what happens in the next few days. He feels there is no one at the club doing the transfer dealing for him and he has been left with just 19 players for the new season. He is angry, as you can imagine.

‘He is ambitious, he has just won the Premier League and wants to win the Champions League. But he can’t do that without the right support.

‘He isn’t about to walk out on City but if nothing else happens before the transfer window closes this could be his last season at City. I wouldn’t rule out a move elsewhere next season.’

There is still tension between Mancini and City chief executive Brian Marwood.

The Italian will want to see some of his targets realised in the next five days if he is to be pacified.

Mark Ryan sometimes Co writes with Bob Cass, Ferguson's mate. They did a piece together on Tevez moving to Milan 4 weeks ago, so they obviously have a good source 'close to Mancini'.

'Cracking up! Mancini snubs Pulis and media after Man City stutter in title race' was his headline in March.

These are the kind of people feeding City fans with rumours.

I hope we don't end up regretting missing out on Eden Hazard. He's looking really good. I'm a little surprised that Mancini's so keen on another striker but he must have doubts about Dzeko, I suppose. I'd still like to see a top class defensive midfielder who can play make from a deep position. De Rossi would be absolutely massive for us but it doesn't look like it will happen. Gutted. And if we don't sign a decent centre back to challenge Lescott and Kompany I don't know why. Wasn't last January sufficient warning?

Ffs Marwood. Pull your fucking finger out.
