+1 for the Kolarov fanclub. Flawed to buggery, but I love having him around. Sometimes he just has the ability to change something positively that no others can.

Me too Bish. I don't even know why. Cause he frustrates me more than Martin Phillips.

He's not much of a defender granted..but he's a threat going forward

As was so often the case last season, Dzeko could and should have dispatched one of Kolarov's peachy crosses. I like Dzeko, but he's nowhere near as composed in front of goal as I imagined he would be.

I'd be interested to see what his conversion rate actually is. I'd hazard a guess it's about 20% with us...

hazardous statement i believe. it can't be nearly that high. Has to be like 5% or something i'd guess.

He's scored at least 3. I can't believe he's taken anywhere near in the range of 60 (unless you're including indirect free kicks and those in our half, but even then...).

Okay...then it's like 10% maybe.

Either way, it's nothing like 20% or the cunt would never leave the pitch, would he?

I'm going to have to look this one up....what's the definition for our pepsi challenge?

dead balls in opposition half? surely there must be an Actim stat for something like this. If he's scored with 20% of his balls i'll shit in my hat and wear it.

cheers

in March of last season we were 4th best in the world at scoring from dead balls at 25%...we'd scored 10 from 40 chances to that point in the season. Seems low doesn't it? March? i can't find a definition of what they are including in the numbers unfortunately.

i can't really find a good stat on Kolarov after a few minutes of searching.

Today was a typical Kolarov peformance, dodgy defensivly, at least one great cross, dangerous from attacking set plays, defeatist body language when under the cosh, liable to drop a bollock.

Im surprised that the club havent identified a young up and coming left back to buy this summer and get shut of Kolarov.

Im not a fan, I dont think he works hard enough for the team and I dont think he's much of an athlete. In high tempo games like today, he looks poor.

Spot on analysis.
One thing I don't get with this guy is that he never tracks back when team hit us with counterattack but still always delivers some vengeance challenge if one of our lads go down and it's not whistled.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

I think what highlights me about Kolarov is an instance in the first half, he tackled their player deep in our third, then beat him through his legs, then faffed around on the ball when he had space and allowed the beaten player to come back and tackle him. Inconsistent is usually from game to game for some players, he does it in the space of 10 seconds.

However, he was not overly bad for him and if Mancini is believing he is going to get better from Kolarov and continues with him, well I think he's just going to be disappointed. Maybe, just maybe he needs someone else to identify defenders for him, his track record hasn't been great in that area.

Funny you say that as I said the other day that he's a reverse Hughes. Hughes for the most part (obviously not bridge) bought good defenders, but his side couldn't defend.

Mancini seems to have bought mostly shit defenders, yet has us defending well. Odd.

Hughes track record for the most part in signings was good. Tevez, Kompany, Zabs, Lescott, de Jong, Bellamy, Kolo, Barry, Given. You could even make a case for Robinho, Shauny and Adebayor. Although how much say he had in Robinho is anyone's guess.

However, you have forgotten the worst defender of the lot, Tal Ben-Haim. Add to that Rocky, Jo and Bridge and he isn't without the dud buys as well. Can we count Sylvinho and Berti? I know they were free, but there was obviously a reason in both cases.

How the fuck did I forget tel Ben haim?

More importantly why did you remind me?

Hughes definitely had his share or duds. I'm certainly not suggesting he could spend our cash better, just think this one area has escaped bobby so far.

Weird thing was, I seem to remember him having an outstanding season at Bolton, then it all went to shit at Chelsea and for some reason Hughes thought better and even pompey were begging for him to just fuck off(money thing). It was possibly one of the worst buys we've ever made, right up there with Bradbury and Negouai.
