I have a different theory about Kolo starting ahead of Lescott ...

I think Mancini fears we won't get another quality CB in time this window and now is taking a u-turn on keeping Kolo as backup ... surely he is better than Savic playing in our defence ... so he has taken him aside and told him that you are very much in the plans and as a senior and experienced player in my squad I am going to rely on you (Kolo) for big games like against Liverpool today and use you in Champions League as well like last year etc. ... and it was all about giving him a little pat at the back and getting him (and with him Yaya too) feeling a little happier and general feel-good effect ...

Imagine Kolo being unhappy and transferred out this week and no one coming in ... Leaving behind a not so happy brother ... and us fighting on four fronts with what? Savic as backup?

Clichy's wife popped the baby on a wrong day so that along with the system change to 3-5-2 kind of compounded the defensive issues today, otherwise Kolo for Lescott for a game *for purposes above* shouldn't have been a big deal.

Overall every single one of them except maybe Tevez looked lethargic and just out if sorts as if they had come for a pre-season friendly ... and as if they had been given a serious spanking before sending them out on pitch, not a single smile today all around, bored faces ... that attitude reflected in the game too, but again start of the season does that, they haven't found their rhythm yet, some don't know if they are staying or going, some don't know who might come in and take their place in starting XI so I guess after transfer window closes this should sort itself out once they all settle down ...

What worried me most however was Mancini at the end of the game thinking we played a great game and took a point and that we should have won as their second goal was on a bad decision free kick ... was he not watching the same game? I really hope he saw all the issues we all did here with the new system and positions and who did what wrong and actually addresses them soon ... so hope this post match interview on Sky was just for keeping a poker face in front of the media and not tell them how furious and seething inside he actually was and that spanking (which they all looked like already having received it) will be handed to them on their backsides back at Carrington!

Yeah, I'm going with that as well. Depite today's poor showing by him, we know he can and has been better on his day, if he has a run of 3-4 games he'll be more that adequete back up, give him all the cup games as well, sorted. As a bonus it keeps Yaya sweet but Kolo needs to get back to his form early after losing the captaincy, he was immense for a while at that stage.... as you say

Mancini mentioned several days ago; losing Yaya & Kolo in January is a problem. That suggests he's staying.

I think he's an ok backup who can play v most teams easily. You just wonder why he played at Munich & Anfield when there was no need.

Highlights for me:
- I thought we did OK. It will be interesting to see how Liverpool get on at home v Arsenal and Utd in the next few weeks
- Tevez outstanding. Easy MOTM.
- Mario tried hard but didn't achieve much. At least he didn't kick out when he got frustrated.
- Kolarov a disaster. OK, we all know he can't defend, but he couldn't shoot, take corners or free kicks either.
- Rodwell substitution worked well. But for a brilliant free kick by Suarez, we would have gone on to win the game
- very entertaining game, if a little nerve racking

This and to add the free kick was never a free kick. Hand ball, never intentional. Kolo was just blaaaaah tried to much shite.
And we still could have won it at the end.
