Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Went to the game tonight with Lewis which was against Oldham in the Manchester Senior Cup. Poor game which ended nil nil. Michael Johnson played the first half which was especially poor as Oldham seemed content to just sit back and squeeze the life out of the game. No space for anyone. City playing more of a 4.3.3 with little Jack Redshaw up top against a guy who looked about 7 foot tall. Moore and Poole were the wide front players and very little happened.
It improved in the 2nd as Johson went off and we played 2 up front with John Guidetti coming on to play with Redshaw. At the same time Oldham I think changed similarly and the game opened up. There were chances at both ends but no goals. We won the penalties 4.2 with Tobias Johansen saving 2 and Trippier hitting the winner.
Notable things on the night good or bad were.
Reece Wabara played center back partnering Boyata. He looked decent.
Johhno was ok but not special. Ball retention generally good but nothing really penetrative.
Guidetti I was impressed with I havent seen him before but he is quite a big lad and used his strength well on a few occasions. His movement was good too. One to look out for and one I want to find out more about.
Trippier defended well but some of his distribution was sloppy bordering on the dangerous.
Paul Marshall took all the free kicks. He got one or two right which were crosses coming in at the keeper but the chances on the edge of the box were awful. Having seen him do this before I am baffled why he seems to take them all.

Question for you to follow up DH
Johnno was called up for the U21s as we all saw. I read one report via Newnow (might've linked to TLDORC's blog) last week saying he'd pulled out of the squad.....however didn't see any reports elsewhere nor on the OS
He didn't figure at the weekend, nor did he feature last night since he was playing in this
What's the story?

The answer re Johnno is that he wasn't injured but had a key appointment with the doctor in Germany which was deemed more important than the U 21's and that's where he was. That's according to his parents who I spoke with last night.
Maybe Pearce called him up anyway more for motivational reasons but would not have played him so accepted the reasoning. Not sure then why he wasn't involved for yesterday's game but I understand he wasn't due to play for the reserves last night either but specifically asked for at least half a game.

kerching, Higginbottom produces the goods once more.
The report I read said he'd pulled out injured but as I saw nothing else I assumed that not to be the case.....which was a relief. I didn't post anything at the time as couldn't bear the thought of the reactions!!!
Great news. I'm really glad we can go softly softly with MJ.....I think we will profit hugely in the future. I'm very relieved he is not currently lining up (half fit) for the Barcodes
