This comment was just posted on McNulty's BBC blog by some Swans fan. Quite illuminating IMO.

As a Swansea fan, I can only thank Liverpool for the £22m you have given us in the last couple of months. I listened to the Radio 5 special a couple of nights ago where the owners described a new philosophy of attacking football and the media-friendly, key-word utterings of Mr Rodgers. Let's get a couple of things sorted out here - Rodgers inherited a philosophy and a squad which was built by Roberto Martinez and the Swansea City board led by a supporters trust and a board led by the wonderful Huw Jenkins. You can shove dossiers up your proverbial backside. The 4 second rule is something every decent coach of an under-10s side in the Swansea Junior League has practiced for the last couple of years. Today, and in pre-season, Swansea have played the most effective attacking football we have played for years - through-balls to wingers who come inside, quicker balls to the likes of Michu and de Guzman. Thanks to Laudrup. Brendan is an arms around the shoulder manager and a student of the Mourinho school of managament. Very Media-savvy.

So is anyone else sick of this twat's neverending stream of "total football" buzzwords?

  • "attacking football with tactical discipline"
  • "possession football with penetration"
  • "control the ball and dominate the opposition"
  • "communication, improvement, and ambition"
  • "allergic to complacency"

I've never heard a manager blather on continuously about his "footballing philosophy" the way Rodgers does. It never fucking ends. Constantly telling all and sundry what his teams will do to the opposition. It's almost as if, you know, he has very little on his CV to speak of. Or something.

There's nothing I'd like more this season (apart from a trophy) than to watch us deliver a hiding to these execrable cunts in a similar fashion to the 6-1.

I read an article from someone connected to Swansea basically saying he inherited a good team and did little more than get out of the way.

I note Swansea seem like a team let loose now he has departed. Maybe he was holding them back?

I don't know about that but I do know he is starting to get on my tits for the reasons mentioned above, & Swansea look much more inventive now he has gone. If he didn't design the Swansea style of play though, who did actually put it together ?

I believe it was Roberts Martinez who began Swansea's style of play. He brought in players from the divisions who could play football and gave them the philosophy they are still playing today. Granted they are more inventive and more fluid now, but it was he began the passing game there not Todgers.

All seems to make sense as well if you look at what he's done with Wigan.

Yeah just looked at it & Martinez did 120 odd games there compared to Rogers 60 odd.

That explains it.

Redknapp just outed the cunt for the bullshit reputation he hasn't earnt on MOTD. Obviously not as aggressively as I made it sound just remarked on the fact that Martinez got Swansea playing great football years ago and Rodgers just inherited the system already in place.

I can't stand twitchy but atleast he isn't just jumping on the same dicks as everyone else and praising Rodgers as the creator of football.

No but I think he just tried to take credit for inventing the diagonal ,"daargnewl" as he puts it, ball into the box.
