Two young male drivers arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. It's almost nailed on. (Still an assumption though)

When I was young a few of my mates would get into 'acceleration races' from traffic lights on multi-lane roads, where someone, usually a young bloke, would rev their engine while alongside them, and, they'd rev back, then get into a stupid duel to try and out accelerate each other from the lights before the lanes merged. Not sure if that still goes on (and I've never driven myself, not even had lessons), I would assume all the CCTV and speed cameras would mean it doesn't happen too often anymore.

This is unfortunately another tragedy that will be connected to football and city in this case.im sure similar tragedies happen outside football as well.Either way if found guilty there should be serious and suitable punishments handed out.if found guilty.

I quote "Manchester City player Courtney Meppen -Walters has been arrested..." plenty of people die who we never hear about, by inference it's news worthy as its about City - the other bloke arrested we are told is a 19 year old male - so his name isn't news worthy?

Bollocks to the shame of the club he has killed 2 people and put 2 kids in hospital.

Obviously you found the words.

Serious crimes like these DO follow Academy members/graduates all the time though. We are doing something seriously wrong bringing these kids up.

Or is it about where these kids come from? How much can we actually do as we aren't the parents of these kids, who knows what happens in their formative years and how it influences their later lives.

Look, I think parents of any kids are in charge of bringing their kids up right. Unfortunately in reality life isn't as sweet as that. And vast majority of top professional footballers come from working class or below background. Soft arse middle class kids simply don't have the kind of hunger needed to make it in professional football. They are sent to Academy and we DO have chance to make difference and help these kids not only as footballers but as persons as well. In fact I do think it's our duty somewhat.

I vast happy to see some Academy rejects of ours go to States after they were released to play university football and get proper education.

It's more a reflection on society than a reflection on the club. They'll be blaming the Manchester riot on City next.

I don't agree. Middle class kids have the drive to study in school, go to college and work hard for a living. Plenty of smart young footballers out there who we never hear about because they're not off doing stupid things.

The biggest problem for young footballers is other young footballers and the wasters who hang in those circles trying to leech off their success.

Pretty much the only thing the club can do is show the youngsters the 'other side of the coin' and get them involved with people in less privileged circumstances, which they try and do through the City In The Community work (like with Mario when he first arrived at the club) - plus give them a decent enough education (the young ones) to fall back on if they don't make it in football.

That's the thing! Plenty of smart young middle class kids out there who play football. But then they always have the education to fall to so there's just not enough hunger to give that bit extra that separated promising from professional. And therefore we never hear of them.

How many professional footballers do you know with middle class background? Fucking hell, Graeme Le Saux was constantly called "poof" for reading Guardian.

Thoughts are obviously with the family of those killed and injured.

However, I love the holier than thou attitude on here regarding the drivers. Yes they were stupid. And yes, if found guilty, they will deserve everything thrown at them. But they were teenagers driving cars too fast for the road, conditions and their ability. They didn't shoot anyone, even if the effect may have been the same.

When I look back at first having a car, the only difference between me and them is luck. And probably a higher powered car, although most will do well over 30mph.

The problem here isn't to do with football or City, it's to do with it being too easy a test, with too little emphasis on being a good driver rather than learning how to pass it and the ability to buy a powerful car regardless of ability, providing you have the money. Add into that drink or drugs, mobile phone use, trying to impress mates/girls... Only a daily basis, drivers all over this country should look at this and say 'there but for the grace of god' rather than 'what idiots, I wouldn't have done that'

You don't need a tougher driving test to know that racing your car on a city street is dangerous. And it shows a selfish, disgusting, disregard for the lives of other people.

It fucking stinks & there is no excuse for it.

Can't help but agree.

Couple of lads were racing down Wilbraham Road at the end of my street - one went to overtake the other on the wrong side of the road through a red light, and clipped a motorbike coming across the junction. Nasty scene, with the bike in the middle of the crossroads a fireball, and the rider about thirty or forty yards from it, I shit you not. Apparently did a good few somersaults high in the air before landing on his back. He was moaning with pain (probably a good sign tbf), with blood oozing out from his helmet and sleeves.

People who put themselves in a situation where that can happen are contemptible pricks.

Edit: *crash-helmet. Don't trust any of you.

I'm not talking The Fast and Furious, I'm talking about doing something ludicrous to 'impress' your mates. If it's found they were doing 100 in a 30, then they deserve it. They could have been doing 50 for all we know at the moment. Yes even that's dangerous and shouldn't be done, but how many of us have done dangerous things without thinking of the consequences.

But as I said, thoughts with the family of those in the Micra

I think we all feel the same about it, but the point BS76 is making has actually been echoed by some earlier posters when they said they'd have been a nightmare with unlimited money.

Precisely. I had a £600 10 year old car and, looking back, was pretty sensible for a 17 yr old. But at many times, if someone had pulled out of a side street...
