What's wrong with David Silva

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

What's wrong with David Silva

Postby blues2win » Mon Sep 24, 2012 9:45 pm

Yesterday his play followed a predictable pattern. Moving forward looking as good as ever before telegraphing a forward pass which gets cut out. God knows what his pass collection rate was. He didn't play well in the second half of last season and now he's started poorly this season.

Is he suffering from being closely marked? Has he been sussed with the pockets of space in which he thrived blocked off? Is he carrying a long term injury? Or should we all relax and wait for him to find his form after only half a pre season post the Euros.

Comments please.

He has looked off his game so far.His passing was dreadful against Arsenal. On a positive note at least he is looking more like creating, against Arsenal he almost cut them open on a few occasions hopefully things will start to click and he finds a few killer passes. With Nasri out we need him back to his best.

K just dont understand the formation. He is not a winger, he is ineffective and needs to grow into a game - he just doesnt see enough of the ball out there to do the damage

Mancini has now got the ultimate embarrasment of riches in the midfield, he genuinely doesnt know how to fit them all in

He's an amazing player then he is on form.

Unfortunately we got about the last month out of him the first season and 2/3 months at the start of last season and the rest has been average with a nice pass here and there.

I was hoping his new contract would maybe settle him back down but apparently he is taking the same shit pills as Kompany.

i don't think he needs rest or is injured but he has looked dreadful this season (and the latter part of last season).
as someone in here mentioned, he still has the right ideas and vision as before it is just his passing that is waaaayyyy off.

he is working hard defensively and tracking back but he just isn't connecting on his passes. some are too difficult and he shouldn't try to make them, some are under hit, and others are too predictable.

hope he gets his mojo back because if he stays on this form, we'll be lucky to make the top 3.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

I noticed when he was warming up against the Arse he want trying half as much as all the other players. The others were sprinting through cones, he was jogging. He wasn't putting his heels up to his hands like the others were during the drills. Maybe I'm reading to much into that & he's just lazy training/warming up? But as soon as I saw his half arsed warm up I feared that he'd be shit. And he was.

We expect a lot from him now but he hasn't even reached 50% of that expectation since the turn of the year. His body language looks all wrong but he's signed a long term contract, stating he's happy here so the mind boggles really. He was great in the euros but nowhere as good as he was at the start of last season. Has he been hanging out with Torres too much? They seem to have caught the same bug.

I'm glad that, unlike Robinho, when playing bad he still tracks back and tries to get stuck in. Otherwise I think quite a lot of City fans would be on his back.

He is fucking tired. He hardly had any time off in summer and he was already dead around march. I said this during Euros.

Our problem is that we never got anyone in to take the pressure off him so we just force him to play despite him being unfit.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Spot on,he has hardly had little time off in years due to spain dominating everything and playing friendlies all over the world. This is his worst patch yet he is still assisting goals, tracking back and looking dangerous in possession, im not one bit concerned.

I agree he looks tired and it shows in his passing. We relied a lot on him last season I don't think that will work this term, we need to spare him when we can.

Good point.Tiredness seems to have developed into the generic excuse for Silva being off his game.

That's easy to answer. Vast majority of players in Spain team play in La Liga. While top two (in past top four five but it's only Real and Barcelona really anomore) teams are probably top two teams in the world, the quality takes a nosedive compared to Premier League especially in bottom 10. They get more easier games and can afford squad rotation and not having to go 110% from end to end every single game. There's also the fact that in last two seasons Silva has been basically man marked every single game. He is the heart and soul of our posession football and attacking dominance. He gets ridiculous amount of kicking for that.

Whether Premier League is the best league in the world is up for debate but I don't think anyone (well..... I wouldn't be surprised if YOU) would argue against the fact that it's easily the most punishing.

I would'nt swear to it but imo the Euro's have a lot to answer for not just in Silva's case but if you look at other teams their Euro players have been injured. Now whilst Silva is not visibly injured my guess is he is near burn out and that's why his passing has become very average to put it kindly.A tired body also equates to a tired mind so his choice of passes are suffering.

What has Messi got to do with anything? Didn't you read what he said about comparing the La Liga and Prem League?
