THE BOLLOX
Shocking footage of Spanish police attacking Manchester City fans appears on YouTube

(Neither shocking or unprovoked tbh, David Dubas-Fisher should write for Mailreporter as thats about his level of objectivity.)

Image
YouTuber and blogger David Dubas-Fisher has published shocking footage on Monday of Manchester City fans getting attacked by Spanish police in the afternoon before last week’s Champions League match with Real Madrid.
Image
Dubas-Fisher provided an excellent, dramatic description of the violence on his blog.
Blood was pouring from heads, and men laid out unconscious in the streets… What started off as a peaceful drinking session outside the Estadio Santiago Bernebeu in Madrid turned into a scene of bloody violence as Manchester City fans clashed with the Spanish Police.

Without provocation Police then began to hit fans around the back of the thighs and buttocks with truncheons in a move to force them to get away. Not being used to these heavy-handed tactics, City fans began to protest the Police´s actions, which only caused the police to turn more aggressive, beating fans around the head, knocking them to the floor.
Having watched the video closely, it should be pointed out that Dubas-Fisher’s comment on a lack of provocations isn’t 100% true.
Without the benefit of seeing any of the footage before the camera started rolling one has to take the blogger at his word, however eight seconds into the footage a City supporter can be clearly seen to hurl beer liquid at a Spanish copper (see the underneath picture). That said, the response of the police was hugely disproportional.
Nitpicking aside, this terrible episode of violence against Manchester City fans has been widely ignored in the mass media, and it shines a light on some of the uglier aspects of how football fans can get treated in Spain.

Roberto Mancini angered by row with Paul Lambert
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says he is "very tired" with the behaviour of opposing managers after a row with Aston Villa's Paul Lambert.
"I didn't say anything to him [Lambert]," he said. "There are some managers it is better to shut up."

Mancini's rows with rivals
•Sir Alex Ferguson - April 2012: Men are separated after an explosive finger-jabbing confrontation in the highly charged encounter which saw City take control of the title race.
•Mark Hughes - Feb 2011: An argument breaks out over an end-of-match handshake.
•David Moyes - March 2010: Mancini was given a suspended £20,000 fine after being found guilty of improper conduct for this row. He barges into the Scot and accuses him of time-wasting by holding the ball.

Mancini clashed with Lambert during City's 4-2 Capital One Cup defeat.
Lambert played down the incident: "It was nothing. If that's what he said then fine. I respect him as a manager and an ex-player."
The City boss was upset by a tackle from Villa's Joe Bennett on City midfielder Gareth Barry, which led to his confrontation with Lambert.
"I asked the fourth official if there was a yellow card, without moving my hands, and he comes over to me," Mancini said.
"I can understand if I was talking to him but I didn't say anything.
"I am very tired with their behaviour. Sometimes these managers go to the big stadiums and the other manager says everything and they say nothing.
"When they go to [Old] Trafford, they say nothing. When other managers talk about the referee they always sit on the bench. I don't like this type of behaviour."

Man City's results this season
•19 Aug, Premier League: Man City 3-2 Southampton
•26 Aug, Premier League: Liverpool 2-2 Man City
•1 Sept, Premier League: Man City 3-1 QPR
•15 Sept, Premier League: Stoke 1-1 Man City
•18 Sept, Champions League: Real Madrid 3-2 Man City
•23 Sept, Premier League: Man City 1-1 Arsenal
•25 Sept, League Cup: Man City 2-4 Aston Villa

The Italian has had previous run-ins with Manchester United counterpart Sir Alex Ferguson, who accused Mancini of "haranguing the officials" during a Manchester derby. City's boss has also been involved in arguments with Everton coach David Moyes and Fulham manager Mark Hughes.
City twice led through goals by Mario Balotelli and Aleksandar Kolarov against Villa, who equalised each time through a Barry own goal and Gabriel Agbonlahor strike. Charles N'Zogbia and Agbonlahor then scored in extra time to leave Premier League champions City without a win in four games. "We didn't play well and this is my fault because I am the manager," said Mancini. "Now I shall find the solution quickly as we have important games." Lambert played down the row and wanted instead to talk about his team's performance. "It is a massive result for us," he said. "I thought the way we played was excellent."

Ramos insists he won't quit Madrid for Man City
Manchester City will have no chance of signing Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos after he patched up his row with Jose Mourinho.
The versatile defender was dropped for the recent Champions League game between his boyhood club and Roberto Mancini's side, sparking speculation he could leave the Bernabeu.
But the Spanish World Cup winner says the issue has since been resolved behind closed doors.
"I do not know if it was a punishment or not, or whether there were technical issues," Ramos said.
"It is not for me to say, all I can say on the issue, from my point of view, is that things involving the team stay behind closed doors.
And in a clear message to Manchester City and other interested parties, he added: "Real Madrid runs through my veins"

As heavy-handed as Spanish police can be (I know, I've spent plenty of time here), some people are lacking a couple of brain cells. You may as well cut your losses and go and get pissed somewhere else. Shouting, "Yer fuckin' well out of order!" and "It's like fuckin' Franco!" in thick accents, in a language they don't understand, right in their faces, isn't going to achieve anything. Neither is uploading a film where people can be seen to throw glasses at the police; that will only strengthen their narrative of provocation.

I'm not defending the Spanish police in any way. In my experience here (and this has a LOT to do with the country's twentieth-century history) the forces do attract more bigots and crackpots than in the UK and the US. But a video of people hurling abuse and caña glasses isn't going to help the cause of what is a justifiable complaint. I admire the lad who ran in and pulled out the 'Caleb' kid, giving him a bollocking in the process. That's good sense. Others just allowed women and kids to get underneath the batons because they were so indignant. That's stupid.

Good sensible post. No one knows what happened before but very irresponsible to get in an argument with coppers on riot gear who obviously are very much up for using their battons. Like you said, kids and women there in danger. Cops in Britain might well use strength as only the last measure but that certainly isn't the case everywhere in Europe, never mind world. In fact, in many parts it's the FIRST measure. In Rome and so on.

Credit where the credit is due, if some of those lads throwing beer at coppers had got the same treatment young Caleb there got when they were kids, maybe they wouldn't be up for stupid things like that.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Well according to Natalie, what happened before was the police turned up & started hitting people with batons & I have no reason to think she's lying. It's all very well people saying you should just quietly accept being hit with batons & not argue, but perhaps if a few thousand Spanish fans occasionally kicked the living shit out of the nazi cunts & set fire to their police vehicles rather than accepting it, then they would think twice about randomly hitting people with sticks ?

I think the fact that the police walked into a bar and smashed every pot on a table and shouted get out (i presume) in a fucking thick accent and l;anguage that no City fans understood and then started hitting them for no reason is also possibly "Well out of order". This was a seperate incident.

We need to complain through the foreign office about this.

Just come over to work here for a year. Neither of us could be arsed with the residency process either for me in the US or her in the UK. We've both spent a lot of time here in the past and been happy so it suits us for now.
