Line up v Dortmund

Postby Green & Blue » Mon Oct 01, 2012 7:15 pm

I never really know what to expect from a Mancini line up on a Champions League night.I'm sure he will most likely make a couple of changes from the weekend. He often favours Kolarov in europe so his inclusion would be no surprise.

I would usually be happy enough to stick with the same line up after a winning result on the weekend. However it would be harsh to leave big Ed on the sidelines again. At this stage it would be fair to say he has played himself in to the team on his current form, at least in my mind anyway.
It's very difficult to know who to leave out but i suppose i would have to opt for Aguero as i still don't feel he is fully up to speed yet after his lay off.He does not look sharp enough yet and has missed a few chances that would normally be drink and water to him.

I'm still not sure what to make of Garcia and if Nasri is fit to start he would have to be my preference.Garcia looks very good at times and slightly lost at others, i don't know what to make of him yet.

I'm going for

Hart

Clichy Kompany Nastasic Zabaleta

silva Barry Yaya Nasri

Tevez Dzeko

No plan survives contact with the enemy.

I think our first CL win is coming on wed night though.

If I was the manager I'd choose
Hart;
Zabaleta - Kompany - Lescott/Nastasic - Clichy;
Silva - Garcia - Barry - Yaya
Dzeko - Tevez.

I do have a sneaky feeling though that we will see Kolarov and Lescott in the starting lineup...

i truly think we need to run the midfield. Reus, Gotze, and Kuba playing outside/behind Lewandoski is gonna be dangerous.
As such, I wouldn't be surprised if we played 4-3-2-1 with:

Hart
Zab/Maicon - Kompany - Lescott/Nasti - Clichy/AK
Barry - Garcia - Yaya
Silva - Nasri
Tevez
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.

God knows what the line-up will be but I reckon both Dzeko and Aguero will start.

----------------Hart

Zabaleta---Kompany---Lescot---Kolarev

--------------Garcia

-----Silva------Yaya-----Nasri

----------Dzeko------Tevez

In terms of defense I would play Lescott before Nastasic as he has more experience. I'd go with Kolarov instead of Clichy as well (In case of good free-kick chances), Kolarov has shown to be good in Champions league as well..I would like to see Garcia in as well. I think he brings something new and can sparkle in this game as he was poor last time he played. I'm sure he's hungry to play...Yaya definitely needs to play behind the strikers and use his strength and skill to rush through the B.D defense. Dzeko should do well if he starts ( I hope he does ) because his confidence is very high at the moment and it will motivate him even more to score against a German club.
Overall I think we can beat them by 2 goals at least. However, it all depends on "Merlin," I think if he plays as well as he did the last game we shouldn't worry..

Go City

I'm guessing there will be a bizarre selection in there.

There are rumours he scored an OG for the EDS tonight.

The most bizarre thing he could do is play 3 at the back after Saturday, so I'm going for 3 at the back with Kolarov & Milner.

On the grounds it's a crucial European night, I think he'll do some experimenting again. So I'm going for:

Wright
Richards Lescott Kolo Nastasic
Rodwell
Milner Garcia
Balotelli Nasri Dzeko

Hopefully, he'll learn from past mistakes both in Europe and this season and play the best team without worrying about Sunday. We need to hold the midfield to protect the back four, which probably means two holding midfielders. Not convinced by Garcia yet, so I think that means Barry and Yaya to start with.

Up front, I'd prefer to start with the workrate of Aguero and Tevez, but I think he might play Dzeko and one of them.

Whatever he decides to do, 3 points are crucial or we're looking at Europa League again

Wrong thread I know, however we need to be the 12th Man to many games where the visitors are loud, Dortmund will be awsome with the support never stopping. We have to DROWN them out and MAKE SOME NOISE FFS.

I think that the position he played Aguero, left of 3 rather than upfront, meant that he got involved a lot more in the game & on rare occasions where Mancini's moved Sergio into that position for periods of matches previously, we have looked more expansive from what I can remember. Aguero doesn't seem to lose his goal threat from there but he does seem to get more time to involve himself in the buildup & is very good when we lose the ball.

If we do start wih Dzeko, I would like to see Sergio in that left of 3 position again, at least to start with, rather than being one of two strikers. Not that he has to play there every game of course, but we do seem to look more fluid with him there & it got him playing better imo. He played there quite a lot for Athletico too & it seemed to give him more chance to run at defenders.

He's got to play Trevor Morley up front. Adcock's just not up to it.
