There are many many issues about midfield before we discuss Yaya:

1. Why will he not pick Milner?
2. Why is Garcia so shit?
3. Why will he not pick Milner?
4. Why is Rodwell the new Spencer Prior?
5. Would the £7m saved in wages and transfer from De Jong stacked up in tenners just in front of the penalty area be better defensive cover than Garcia and Rodwell?

I would like to add to that and say Why will he Not pick Milner .

seriously it deserves to be asked twice.

"First half we had three or four incredible chances and I don't know why we didn't score but this can happen. The problem was our performance. This is the problem. In the Champions League we can't play with all players that attack. We need to defend with all players. If you don't defend, if you don't run like Borussia Dortmund did this evening, it's difficult."

Now this is spot on, so let's look at the players you would really expect, from their career performances, to run like fuck, in City's starting 11.

Zabaleta, Clichy, Aguero..

So how about starting with a team selection that doesn't require everyone to run like fuck & is balanced ?

Related, i think yaya....played a fantastic match at CB vs the scum to win the CL.

that is all.

Just spotted this.

Nothing stopping Yaya from being the best defensive mid in the world, other than the fact that he won't cover anything or run back when he sees a problem unless he feels like it. One game at CB for Barca involves no running back at all, as you are already there as CB also, it was in a final. Balotelli could probably be persuaded to defend in a Champions League final.

Plus, don't flatter yourself about the clown job; there can be only one.

i said this last year that there was an unbalance in his play, great going forward really powerful and damaging, but going back, facing his own goal, is an entirely different matter.

we miss Barry, our most under rated player by a mile.

Barry looked very fit v Fulham. Don't know what happened to him last night.

Against teams like this, we need at least two players to protect the defence behind Yaya. I would say 3. Everyone is charging forward & half, including Yaya, are not getting back. When they are back, they are chasing shadows rather than lining up in a unit like last season.

Mancini has ruined the defence & it needs protecting. Yaya didn't even protect it when it was good.

We may get away with it v lesser teams (but we didn't v Southampton or QPR) but against any kind of quality, we are a fucking mess & there are plenty of Premier League teams who can line up like Dortmund did & hit us quickly on the counter, & finish better.

We need to designate some players to plug the holes & help the defensive unit regain its steel.

All this bollox about moving him forward like he is supposed to be some 2nd striker is just that bollox.
He has won us enough important games playing the way he does.
Leave him where he is

But Mancini does move him forward & even does use him as a 2nd striker sometimes (not that I'm advocating Yaya as a second striker) & most of his best performances have been when used in that attacking midfield position.

Have you really never noticed this ? You honestly think he plays in the same role every game ?

The whole football world has been discussing this topic about Yaya's effectiveness when Mancini pushes him forward, for over a year & you are telling me you have completely missed it ?

If all you experts have been discussing for so long and he Bobby thinks its only gonna be effective at the end of game I think he knows better, sorry but think Bobby knows more about Yaya abilities than you.If it has been common knowledge for so long there must be a reason he is not doing it.

Bollocks against the rags he was starting attacks from the raids they attempted, Jones knocked of the ball and away we went, Newcastle away was back and forth and finished moves which won us the game. We should have scored early last night. as it was they proved they are a top team, TEAM being the word, YaYa and Silva along with Nasri have to do more for us that is a fact in games as big as last night Silva missed from 2 yards. Nasri hit and Miss. Last night a miss.

The difference in our ability to threaten offensively when he is playing more forward is so much better than when he sits back. I really believe if he were allowed more offensive freedom and less of a defensive role (oxymoron with him I know) we could easily put up 3-4 more solid scoring chances a game.

Barry, Rodwell (when he actually looks up before he passes) and Garcia (and frankly I would trust Milner more defensively at this time than Yaya) can handle that role and let Yaya play where Nasri should be playing.
I've come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass... and I am all out of bubblegum.

Sheblue you have it the proverbial nail exactly where it needed to be hit.
Ya ya doesn't defend well
Ya ya attacks brilliantly

therefore

We need good defensive cover from a knitted unit behind him. We had this with Kompany and Lescott. People tend to look at the player too much and not understand the impression that player is having on the team. We had a superb understanding between players at the end of last season and this has been destroyed with the introduction of too many new ones into the team this season pari passu.
Nasti and Garcia and Barry (after 2/12 out) in Madrid is a typical example.
Why?

Don´t know about "this can happen" Ted. I´m of the opinion that we are and have been the most profligate team anywhere when it comes to gilt edged chances. Course on the other hand people will say we are creating them. Fact is if we put more away we wouldn´t have to go chasing openings for longer periods than necessary
