Everyone else gets a thread so let's show some love for the man that covers our defenders and along with Milner they freed yaya up to great effect.

Stay injury free and don't age, you handsome, underrated superstar you!

Didn't think he was that great today mate, I love our GazBaz, but what I saw today was a rusty performance.

Rusty or not he is one of the few players in the team that can be trusted to pass to under pressure. There is just something soothing about his play that gives others more confidence. Yaya clearly trusts him as does Silva and others.. so he ends up being a sort of popular gel.

Trust in BazGel! got a certain ring to it dont you Think

He was there as a outlet and to help out in defence. Filled a space that has been a problem this season. A good game for him to be back and an even better one for him to build a bit of match fitness. His errors didn't cost us today. Something was wrong though. Didn't see him handle the ball. Must have stopped making that bet on how many times he could handle without being penalised.

well spotted, he also completely failed to foul someone from behind and missed umpteen opportunities to bundle someone over with a body charge. Rusty I suppose.. it'll come.

He was slightly above average today and nothing more imo, slipped and gave them a goal scoring chance that they should have buried.

He is a fucking ninja. You don't know what it is he does and half the time never even notice him but he is there doing important shit that allows the flashier players to go take all the credit.

Agree it wasn't his best game, but there's no doubt in my mind were a better, more balanced side when he plays.

what were you all watching.
Barry was THE difference and brought calm back at the back as well as moving the ball well. He didn't flag and was a close call for man of the match
he plays in the position where famously nobody sees what you contribute but I'd have thought better of you lot
It's GREAT to have him back
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

He would have been my second choice for MOTM behind Milner.

Probably if people are watching on tv, they miss 90% of what Barry does in a game as by the time the camera gets there, it looks like someone has just happened to pass the ball to him, you don't see him anticipate it & nip in before the oppo read it.

There was a perfect example of this in the 2nd half, where we had everyone attacking & the Sunderlad keeper got to the ball, straight away he was thumping it long onto their right wing, in our half, with most of our team stranded in their half. On Wed, that would have resulted in a Dortmund player unmarked, speeding at our penalty area with hardly any defence. Yesterday, before the ball even touched the keeper's foot, GB had decided where it was going & was sprinting diagonal, full tilt to cover before it landed. On TV they will have just seen Barry heading a routine goal kick out for an oppo throw.

Exactly

I managed to get a a seat in the CBS right on the centre line yesterday (thanks to a small pension increase) and I was mesmerised by his movement and positioning. People really don't have a clue about his strategic acumen. Once the ball gets to him all his work is done.
He most definitely gives confidence to Ya Ya and others around him. (As does Milner with Silva)

Five England players yesterday with no new transfers in = clean sheet?
Not being chauvinistic just mentioning!
Cheers

Barry needs some credit. He is calm and reliable and every team needs a player like that.
He did make mistakes yesterday and he is slow, but it's his first game back and they will improve.
I thought yesterday Barry allowed the team to play, something both Rodwell and Garcia have not been able to do. He covered the pitch very well and supported the back four all game. He does the simple things in football that links defence in to attack. A very important player to have in a team.

I hope both Rodwell & Garcia can learn from Barry.

If Barry had pace, he'd be worth about 50 million quid.

Check this tweet. Couldn't agree more.

“@SultanaofBrunei: Whether you rate Gareth Barry or not seems to align exactly with whether you really know anything about football or not. Weird.”

The one thing that really showed having Barry back was the ability for the centre halves to just play a short pass into his feet and he is confident enough to turn out and play it on, or play it back and create space in behind him.

It wasn't Barry's best game for us but I think he gave us a reminder of how we can struggle when he isn't in the team.

Never understand the love he gets from most City fans.

In my opinion he's an accident waiting to happen every time he plays. Whether its a handball or a misplaced pass. He gives the ball away more than anyone! Luckily he doesn't do it close to our goal like Rodwell.

He seems like a nice guy though.
