Official: Joe Hart is the world’s best goalkeeper
By Eurosport Pitchside Europe – Thu, Oct 11, 2012 15:59 BST
Joe Hart has won recognition as the world's beat goalkeeper from Eurosport's global network of editorial staffs.
Our journalists in 10 countries voted for their World XI, and England keeper Hart got five votes, beating competition from Spain's Iker Casillas (three), Italy's Gianluigi Buffon (one) and Germany's Manuel Neuer (one).
Hart, who has been in sparkling form this season, was Britain's lone representative in the Eurosport team.
Ashley Cole got a solitary vote at left-back from Spain, while Italy gave the nod to Gareth Bale.
No other player got any votes - a total snub for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard.
Hart was joined by two Manchester City team-mates, as Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure got the nod.
The three City players were joined by a Barcelona trio of Dani Alves, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
England's Euro 2012 nemesis Andrea Pirlo provided Serie A's lone representative, while controversial Paris Saint-Germain and Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic got the nod.
Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were the only players to get a full house of 10 votes.
The participating countries/regions were: UK & Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Russia, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Arabia.
