Say what you like about Sir Joseph but he is pretty good when it comes to a wind up!

Joey Barton: Carlos Tevez is the epitome of what’s wrong with modern players

QPR midfielder Joey Barton, who is on loan at French side Marseille, has labelled Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez as a mercenary.

The Argentine forward was suspended by the Citizens for failing to warm up during their Champions League game at Bayern Munich before returning to help the club to the Premier League title.

Barton is currently serving a 12-match ban for his actions at the Etihad that day which involved him kicking out at the Argentine but the midfielder insisted that he has no respect for him.

“Tevez? He’s a mercenary,” Barton told The Times.

“You can’t really back him. Sure, I’m a hoodlum, I’ve got into scrapes - but Tevez is someone who in the last six months has gone on strike, gone off to Argentina to play golf, tried to get himself sacked.

“If that’s not the epitome of what’s wrong with modern players, I don’t know what is. And don’t forget, Tevez punched me first.”

Aww bless did Joey think we'd forgotten all about him now he's in France - does no one care about his cut & paste 'clever' quotes on Twitter anymore?

Assaulting anyone whether it be in the streets, on the pitch, in training are all bigger concerns than someone who goes on strike - Shrek threatening to leave until they paid him more is a worse moral example, Tevez is just a poster boy for the likes of Bob Crowe ;)

The lad has a huge chip on his shoulder. He thinks the world and football owes him something.
He needs to quit while he is ahead because soon, he will do something ridiculous again and this time there will be no one to provide him with another chance.

For once I fully agree with him.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

No arguments with his comments but it might be considered a bit rich coming from him.

Is this the same Joey Barton who has

- Been given 6 months for assaulting a teen outside McDonlalds
- given a 10 match ban for attacking Ousmane Dabo in training(beating him unconcious)
- 3 match ban for puching Gamst Pedersen
- kicked out at Aguero and tried to nut Kompany resulting in 12 match ban
- convieniantly used a youth team players face as an ash tray(as you do)
- suspended for career threating tackle on Alonso

He's not said anything wrong.

If Saville had called Glitter a kiddy fiddler would he have been wrong just because he was one himself?

Allegedly.

Yes he has. Tevez is not the epitome of all that is wrong with modern players, not at all. Tevez is one player that got himself, for whatever reason in a mess. To the detriment of the Club, his team and squad members, most importantly the fans and his family. How many other players have done such stupid things as Carlos did. I can't think of any other, so he is an exception. Just because Barton admits to being a thug, it still does not make his assessment correct, not at all.

Is the modern player really as bad as this divot is making him out to be?

According to Bartons warped logic , there is something wrong with the modern player. which as we see week in week out clearly doesn't appear to be the case.

I think the reason will be clear within 5-6 years. For me, if he leaves us and returns to Argentina/has a Gazza-esque life trajectory, all will be forgiven. If he moves elsewhere in Europe, and continues along the same lines, then we'll know he was either being dishonest, or faking mental illness.

Barton's spot on, Tevez is a mercenary.

Barton is too and so are many modern players, but I agree with him on Tevez. Carlos may be a great player but he will never be loved at City anymore by many due to his prior conduct.

This is the player currently playing in France in order to circumvent a 12 match ban and he's talking about mercenaries?
