did you ever get those sock's shipped from over the water, or your money back?

Don't want to start a wild goose chase, but it does look like Mike Ashley's got some:

I made the mistake of buying some stuff from Sports Direct once - never again. I get the distinct impression they buy substandard gear on the cheap inorder to sell it at low prices. (This was a couple of years ago now).

Nah didn't get the socks. Did manage to get my money back through a paypal investigation though. I've gave up on getting them. It's like mission impossible. Even tried that clown on ebay but he didn't have the right size. The sports direct site only have childrens size. Thanks anyway though. The socks that got away.

Spent the 4 days preceeding the game in the maternity ward at MRI. Missus was in slow labout, veeeery slow.

The night before the game they took her into a delivery suite to break her waters and stuff at 9. Nothing happened after that. Got about 3 hours sleep on the hospital floor in the room. Woke up had 2 coffee's from the costa downstairs and then she went down for a c section at 11. Think he was out at about 11:16 or something like that. Stayed in the hospital with them until about 1 then went home and had a shower and got to the game in time for kick off.

Was gutted when it was 2-1. Then we went and won the league and i had a little run out on the pitch and a good sing song for abit after.

Went back to the hospital in the shitty champions shirt i bought outside the ground for like £15.

I haven't read what others have posted yet...I've wanted to post but haven't wanted to until now really....so here we go.

Now whilst I have a season ticket, I can't get to every game so it gets divvied out amongst friends at face value. I decided to go to the derby 10 days earlier as City have never lost when I have been at COMS/Th'Etihad. My attendance was absolutely vital as far as I was concerned...we wouldn't win unless I was there!

So we won 1 nil, and the next day plans were made to beg borrow or steal the necessary funds for the flight, because my attendance would be vital. That secured, up realy early doors, myself and three fellow Manxmen flew over early doors on the Sunday. Three Manxmen with two tickets between them, and one with the promise of one from a bloke on the end of a phone.

That left myself and the lad without without a ticket walking out to the ground at 11. Amongst other things, we received abuse from two rags in a small white van outside the ground....nothing changes there from the arrogant cnuts does it? Eventually Mark got hold of a ticket for a princely sum of £400. I got hold of a programmes for friends. Now bearing in mind I was skint, the fiver I had left after buying train tickets etc ended up getting lost.

Because of that I wandered around the ground for a good hour or so. I was able to take in the atmosphere, walking past Mary D's with supporters in fine fettle, as were those outside The Townley. I decided to go in early and just sit there in my seat, listening to my tunes, and thinking what If...etc etc etc.

I was rudely awoken by my Manx Sale based friend "Alf", whole kindly bought me a beer....The concourse was getting full and the atmosphere and singing by our support was daunting. the QPR players were looking over to 110 and looked nervous. I remember being in the queue and saying to Alf that I wasnt looking forward to the game. I'd had a bad feeling as soon as I got up and it had lingered all day...A good looking lass with dark hair chipped in to the conversation and settled my nerves a bit. (Bang Tidy I thought)....epspecially with full and frank views regarding old Baconface! Another Manxie, Paul originally from Didsbury met up with us in 110 and away we go.

Great atmosphere at the start, Zab scores....nerves settled. Oranges, two minutes in QPR equalise, right after some idiot starts a "Champeeeones" chant a few seats along. I was not happy, and even less happy when Mackie scores.

At 80, my gut feeling still hadnt changed. Misplaced passes, errant shots, dropping heads and a general whirlpool of increasing depression were just adding to the situation. Bizarrely...I started to feel the same emotions the day we lost our twins in '09....Utter devastation, desolation and helplessness.

I began to get ready to leave...I got my jacket ready to cover up the shirt. I imagined rats flooding out of every public house on the walk into town taking the piss. At 83, "I'll go at 85" I thought to myself....At 85, "I'll go at 87"....

I looked up and from nowhere it was 90. I looked to my left, and faces were etched with pain and despair. Faces I didn't know, but shared the same passion with, and empathy for years. The same to my right.

"In for a penny in for a pound"...I stayed.I could have gone. I should have gone. I stayed... The best decision I have made in my life.

Dzeko leaps, nods....typical City. People jumping around behind the goal, but doen the sideline it was polite applause. The QPR bench go berserk, we're moving forward with the Panzer that is Nigel De Jong.

Now around this time, just as Mario knocks it to Serge, it's like the World stops for a tick, the clock stops. We're all conscious, but in our own personal yet collective bubble.

BOOM!

Utter delerium, Madness. Bodies grabbed, kissed, hugged...the noise, the relief, the release of that weight off the shoulders. I admit I cried....I cried like a baby. I cried the next day watching the parade in front of the missus, every time I watched the highlights at work for a fortnight.

I have, however, yet to return. Why?

I love City, I respect what we have been through. I respect what we have achieved. But whilst I re-newed, Nothing at the moment can top what occurred that fateful afternoon. It was a bit like "Close Encounters" when people were making they way to the Devil's Tower. There was a reason yet they didn't know why.

Its a bit like that for me at the moment. Nothing can beat or exceed what occurred....I'll be back soon, Just not yet.

Cheers....Manx

I was just interviewed for an upcoming article in MEN in which I said "Losing was something you could do from your couch. But winning, winning was something you had to share, so after years of being the only City supporter, I reached out and found 2 other Blues to watch the match with... and now we have an entire supporters branch built on it..."

This story seems like a good first post on this forum...

I have been a City supporter since I was 8. And I've carried my support through growing up in South Africa, to Banbury in Oxon, to New Malden in Surrey, to Calgary in Canada and now on to Los Angeles. Wherever I went I was the only City supporter. I'd been out to pubs to watch matches and found other City supporters, at the FA Cup final for example, but they never seemed to live near me. I knew about the great supporters club in Redondo Beach but I decided to try and find where other Blues might be watching in the days leading up to the match. I found the other 2 and we showed up at the Fox & Hounds pub in Studio City, CA (part of LA) as Redondo Beach, although in LA, is too far to travel knowing what condition we'd be in after a few (or more than a few) pints - win or lose. We stumbled into one other Blue and we went through all the tears of thinking we'd lost, to the screaming and joy and back to the tears of joy. In the pub that day were 30+ Gooners, and handful of Rags.

From that we've created a new branch of the Supporters Club, the Hollywood Blues, and we've grown in just ten months to over 65 in our Facebook group and over 30 actual members (and not a single a glory hunter in the lot...)

I think this is the second time I've wondered into this thread and although I'd love to post I'm still exhausted from that day. 10 months, physically fit as fuck, but still emotionally drained. It's hard and I'd expect everyone to respond but it's not quite like that.

It's just ............ hard.

Always good to copy the story in mate.

Now the Blues have made it big in... Hollywood!
19 Mar 2013 10:47

We invite you to meet the ‘Beverly Hills Blues’ – a group of Manchester City fans who are so dedicated they're in the pub at 7am, watching their team play... 5,000 miles away.

Image

The bar is a sea of blue – Manchester City fans with eyes glued to the screens, pints in hand.

Nothing unusual about that. Except this is Hollywood, one of the most glamorous locations on the planet. And it is seven o’clock in the morning.

Meet the ‘Beverly Hills Blues’ – the Hollywood branch of City’s foreign legion. They are a large and growing mix of lifelong ex-pat fans and American recruits from the world’s capital of film.

The group was formed in May last year, on the eve of City’s dramatic Premier League title win.

Two men – Matthew Kershaw, 41, and Paul Carnall, 50 – knew their club were on the verge of something historic.

They found each other through a supporters’ online forum, and the Hollywood MCFC group was born.

Their first match was the last-gap win against QPR that secured the title. They cried in each other’s arms.

The group now boasts around 150 members, with a hardcore of around 40 regularly turning out at the Kings Head II in Studio City – the group’s main meeting point – to watch matches from as early as 4am.

Paul, a native Wiganer who now lives in Studio City, said: “City had beaten Norwich 6-1 in the middle of April.

“That was the turning point for me. Momentum was growing and I thought I’m not watching the last game on my own.”

South African-born Matthew started supporting City as a nine-year-old after watching the 1981 FA Cup final with his Tottenham-fan dad. He said: “Since dad supported Spurs, naturally I had to support the other team. I’ve been a City supporter ever since. I get over to watch them live a couple of times a year. It’s not always been easy.

"Being a City fan has always been very lonely unless you live in Manchester. But awareness is really growing now. Even in America people are beginning to realise there are two teams in Manchester.”

While City’s galaxy of world-class stars – and Premier League win – have certainly boosted their profile in America, it isn’t Sheikh Mansour, Roberto Mancini or Yaya Toure who have been the club’s most effective recruiting sergeants on the other side of the Atlantic.

That role has been taken by Noel and Liam Gallagher.

Most of the Hollywood group’s American-born members started supporting City in the 1990s and early 2000s – when the team was struggling, but the Blues-mad brothers were in their Oasis prime.

Bernadette Gilbey, a 38-year-old Los Angeles native, was one of four people at the first-ever meet-up of the Hollywood group. She said: “I was in England 18 years ago and watched Oasis. I was a huge fan.

“There was an interview with the Gallaghers and all they talked about was City. I had no interest before that – I wasn’t even a soccer fan.

“But the Gallaghers were so passionate about it. We were just converted. Since then I’ve been to Maine Road and the new stadium. It’s incredible how much has changed.”

The ex-pats include Andy Gillespie, 46, originally from Middleton but now living in Simi Valley.

He came to visit his mum’s cousin in 1995 – and never left.

He said: “I figured I would stay for six months and ended up staying for good. I came here the day after we were beaten 4-0 by Liverpool in the cup. Back then you’d have to wait until Monday and read the results in the LA Times – or sometimes I’d ring my mum. I’ve been a City fan all my life. In the 1980s I’d follow them home and away.

“It’s hard to grasp how bad we really were back then. I doubt many United fans would have cried tears of joy like we did when we won the cup.

“Watching City is the one thing I miss about England. It was a great day out. For years here there would be no one else with me. Now there is.”
