Players Planning To Boycott The 'Lets Kick It Out' Campaign

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Kick it out campaign has certainly raised awareness brilliantly IMO, the racism that exists now is a tiny fraction of what I used to hear on the terraces 10 years ago.... I am embarrassed by what I used to hear 20-25 years ago and the chants that used to go around.

You cant knock the kick it out campaign for continuing their efforts. The FA should back up this campaign by putting a minimum (10 games) ban on anyone found guilty of a racist action. The pathetic 4 game Ban for Terry is unbelievable, especially when my lad was sent off last season for shouting to me that the ref was being a muppet, my lad got a 35 day ban. This spanned 5 games!! I dont agree with my lads lack of respect and didn't appeal the ban as he needs to learn to shut his mouth, however, when the FA ban Terry for 4 games after finding him guilty of racism towards Anton Ferdinand, its shocking.

Thoughts:-
1) Shouldn't SAF, a white old man, feel uncomfortable telling young black players how to fight racism?

2) Mark Hughes's statement that "You'll never get rid of racism in football".
Two points, first, does that mean we should give up trying? Doesn't this give a green light to the racists?
Second, Leslie you're missing the point. Sure, you'll never completely get rid of racism (or paedophilia, crime, or a host of other evils) from INSIDE SOME PEOPLES HEADS, but what you can do is make sure that racist BEHAVIOUR is unacceptable and punish those who do it.

3) There is no doubt that the actions of the refusniks have drawn attention the whole issue to a greater extent than, for example, pious statements read out before a match.

4) The progress made since the seventies is something to be proud of, but football can't rest on its laurels, the war can still be lost.
"You sir, will either be hung as a traitor or die of the pox"
"That sir, depends on whether I embrace your principles or your mistress"

Also Micah Richards and Kenwyne Jones did not wear it.

If I understand correctly, the kick it out campaign is funded by the FA, right?

I should say that creating this campaign and staffing it with 7 people and a 500k budget should be considered misguided at best, but definitely offensive, and a sham at worst.

Especially when FA themselves find an English player guilty of racism and only give him a 4 game ban. Luis Suarez was given 8 for virtually the same offence. Where is the justification there? Where is the justification for creating a joke of an organization to fight racism, and then to reinforce it in front of everyone's eyes?

What exactly has the kick it out campaign done? It's got billboards up in some stadiums, and i'm pretty sure it is in Football manager. It seems like just a sham organization set up to appease a minority, without actually doing anything to affect real change. I applaud anyone who has the guts to stand up and say that it's not enough, especially in the wake of the terry verdict.

Surely any organisation that is open only to people with a certain skin colour is racist.

I will start one just for white players......imagine how that would be received? The whole point is to get away from the skin colour issue yet camelgob is just makibg it worse imo. Things like this and the mobo's do not help the situation.

Interesting to see the Beeb listing Richards and Lescott as the 2 City players who refused to wear the T-Shirts ... I was under the impression that City were not doing their bit until our game against Swansea this weekend so thats some inside knowledge going on there!!!

Of course it is, a white person calling a black person 'blackey' is clearly racist in comparison to a black person calling a white person 'whitey'.
It's only the caucasian people that are racist.

I totally agree mate. I'm just wondering if this is for the good of game, the good of black players or for the good of Ferdinand; is it his after career set-up, making a few quid as the president?
