When the Swansea player went down there was nothing happening of consequence. When Richards went down, they had a chance to score just like we carried on with Nasri down.

I've only ever seen one player not score due to an opponent's injury and that was di Canio caching the ball rather than putting it in the empty net when the keeper collapsed.

Di Canio received a lot of praise for doing that, and rightly so IMO.
I would like to see more sporting behaviour like that shown by di Canio and Hart.

So when the Swansea player went down and the ref doesn't see it Joe should just ignore it and play on?

What if he had a heart attack like Foe or Muamba? Or swallowed his tongue like Paul Lake? Do we just ignore and try to score before referee notices?

I think you got it later KK,if the opposition players call for the game to be stopped then it's going to be legit otherwise the ref is the decision maker and until he blows the whistle you carry on.It's up to the ref ( he always hears the appeals) to judge whether it's serious enough to warrant stopping the game.

I would like teams to be punished for kicking the ball out without the ref's permission & the rules changed to allow the 4th official to permit entry to the medical staff should a player be deemed to be seriously injured, then the game continues whilst they are treating said player, until the moment the ref decides they are seriously interfering with play.

Half the time medics come on, it is to deal with time wasters or ponces rather than players who genuinely need treatment. If they were hampering their own team by faking injury or being a wuss, rather than breaking up play of the oppo or trying to influence the ref, they would stay on their feet (apart from Suarez, Ronaldo & Drogba). Most do not require treatment at all.

I would love to see the old Don Revie Leeds team in these circumstances. The number of goals they would score by playing on or blatantly chucking the ball to Alan Clark in the oppo penalty are whilst everyone waited for them to give the ball back, would put a stop to it, very quickly. I can just see Billy Bremner arguing "We never asked them to kick the ball out when Norman went down, so why should we give it back ".

If Di Canio had done that while they were playing Chelsea with one minute to go and it was 0-0; what do you think the reaction of the WHU fans would have been?

Play to the whistle.

Players cheat by pretending to be injured to get the game stopped. I despise the fact that what started as being a sporting gesture is now used for cheating. play to the whistle and let the cheating fuckers roll around. When there is a real problem the ref will sort it.
Refs decide the flow of the game not players.

Fair enough. Let's just hope no player dies whilst waiting for the whistle.

Well it won't happen if players see someone in genuine difficulty, they will stop playing.

Unless it's the Swansea players apparently.

You were talking life or death situations. A bloke holding his leg, is not a life or death situation, unless he has stood on a landmine & he is holding his leg in his arms.

If that was us and we were 0-1 down I'd be pretty pissed if we stopped playing.

Like Rugby League rules. Self-regulates. Play continues around the player being treated..
