Miss the lad even though he wouldnt get into our current team but its still hard to imagine he could ever be considered as bad as this lot are making out, someone even suggesting he could be their worst ever signing!

SWP will always be held in high regard by us but he was shocking yesterday for QPR. Gave the ball away every time he received it.

Still, he's not their worst ever signing. Hughes is without doubt their worst ever signing.

He's not done much of note in about 3 years. Hate to say it, but I can't remember a player losing all redeeming qualities so quickly.

This unfortunately.

I used to watch SWP fighting his way through mud & shite against lads twice his size at Platt Lane, & when he made the 1st team, it felt (I know it's sad) as if it was like "that's my lad" because I'd argued his case v so many people who said he was too small etc.

When he finally left the club, I was glad to see the back of him, as he was shite. I think he desperately wanted to be a City player (God blessim) & when that started to slip away, so did his mojo.

There's a lot of truth in this. I get the feeling that if we re-re-signed him in January until the end of the season and gave him a few cameos, it'd be like when Fowler went back to Liverpool in 2006. Some players connect with one club and one set of fans. SWP and Fowler are the two best examples I can think of. I'd say Shearer too but he was great at Southampton, Blackburn AND Newcastle.

I wonder if there's anyone else...

Benjani and Pompey?

he's just had his 31st birthday and maybe he finally IS too small and there's nowt left in the tank. You can only prove everyone wrong for so long. Not crap, just finished.
I've nothing but positive memories of him from his defending and winning headers (wtf) in our box to those special goals (including the 4th in 2004 derby which won me a 350-1 bet).
There was a derby where the scum had 6 players booked if I remember and 4 or 5 of them were for fouling the little man. That was just the ones that couldn't be ignored. he was murdered for 90 minutes and still shone.
Wonderful servant, and what his current employers fans think is irrelevant.
For us the good news was that a player of his potential eventually couldn't get in the team (and was made to look "shite") and that is before we went stellar.
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

I loved the little gem the first time round with us, like everyone else. He was back to his best on his second debut (v Sunderland) and then just went to pot. From the few QPR games I've seen this and last season, the comments on that QPR board are not that far off the truth .... sadly

The SWP that dazzled us in his younger days would play regularly in this team though. He really was a top player for us, not just because the rest were shit. If Mancini had been able to coach him at that age, perhaps he would have learned something which allowed him to adapt to plan B once his pace disappeared ? As it is, he is just a slower, less inspired version of an 18 year old SWP.

I remember a thread on here (the old forum) comparing him and Rooney at a younger age. There wasn't much in it at the time, thats how good he was.

Chelsea absolutely finished him. He still had/has talent but the natural abilty has been well and truely coached out of him.

funnily for years my brother a rag always said he would rather SWP over ronaldo(before ronaldo really hit his heights), funny how it all changes, still one of my top 5 city players of all time
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,
silly boy should know for sure,
feed the goat and he will score!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic post

Regarding link in op, I stopped reading at this point.

The single biggest reason Hughes should at least be considered for dismissal

Spent tons and tons of money, barely kept them up last season and are now dead last with no wins in 9. What more do you need to do to get sack? No need to consider anything.

I used to think Hughes was just about average manager who was always touted as "next big thing" because of his rag past. But he has been simply shite in QPR and sooner they get rid of him the better chance they have staying up. It's starting to remind Steve Kean situation when he was in Blackburn. They could've changed the course if they had sacked him in reasonable time but just kept hold of him for some odd reason.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
