Lack off speed

Postby Luke11993 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 8:24 pm

Over recent weeks and thinking about it before as well we have very little speed, it's all very slow build up giving the opposition time to get back, yes we have technical players but there so slow, the only have quick player is Sinclair and he doesn't play, came on tonight and didn't touch the ball as far as im aware, there's no speed and I think at times it shows like tonight, a pacey forward in behind could have been the edge we were looking for.

It's not about fast players, although undoubtedly help, but more about the speed of passing and thought. We certainly need to move the ball around quicker as well as needing more ideas when the bus is parked.

Exactly, there's no speed in our team or in the passing or ideas its like we're becoming Barcelona we have one way off playing and if it don't work we look lost, new ideas and quicker thinking and faster play mite help.

^^^This^^^. Instead of seeing a long pass or a quick shift forward we seem to pass the ball around the middle then try go forward as one while opposing teams have time to organise against or attack. Silva is our main hope of having vision to shift it to a player bombing forward with a killer pass rather than slow the ball by passing to defensive mid, then shifting the ball.

Movement without ball has been like shit lately, this is helping other teams to defend easily against us. How do u think Barcelona scores 4-5 goals against teams that park the bus? It's movement without ball that create spaces and chances.

This has been a problem for the best part of twelve months. Bob has failed dismally to address it. I'm pretty sure this is why he is fiddling with three at the back , in an effort to pep up the attacking aspect. It hasn't worked and it's fucked up the defence.

We weren't slow on the ball v West Brom or Fulham.

Imo Bob's ridiculous Champions League tactics have undermined the confidence of the squad & just as we start to play, he does it again. That's why we are a bit ponderous at times.

No, they're not. Tevez and Aguero are the only ones that come close to being able to do something special, the key that unlocks teams like West ham who have their whole team in the penalty area and play for a draw like girls when we come to town. But those two are the ones you want on the end of Silva's passes to finish. Dzeko is pointless outside of the box. Yaya is all power and no subtlety, and Barry is no forward-thinking midfielder.
Silva finds the space between the two banks of four, no matter how compressed it is, moves like a gazelle and splits the tightest of openings with perfectly-weighted and angled passes for forwards' runs. In our squad, noone else can do that. It's speed of thought & passing - first-time one-twos, the ability to read the play instantly that makes him and players like Benarbia, Modric, Hoddle, whoever rare, special (and obviously my favourite type of player.)
If you watch yesterday's match, or any recently, we had several breaks and passes were on but the player lingered on the ball too long, even a fraction of a second, and the opportunity was gone. Silva in Tevez's position on the left yesterday would have found the right player with the right pass and we'd have taken the points. Thanks for making me write all that out. We miss David Silva.

Also, when he's on his quick play infects the rest of the team, creates more space for others and they think and pass a whole lot better too. Someone else on the team should model what he does for times like these.

Saw it yesterday so clearly, Balo wanted a return after making some seriously bright run and where was the ball? Oh, right. It's back with fucking VK. (The run was in their defensive third!)
This happens time and time again. The ball goes to midfield.. then straight back to defence, and an attempt to widen play ensues. It's far too obvious, their fullbacks can get in check and the whole opposing team falls into rank resulting in a lot of shirts in the way of the goal.
I want more pace, energy and ideas when we attack. Will definitely help our defence, as we concede a lot from our team being sat in their half and they spring a break.

It'd be a nice option to have to pop a ball over the top from time to time just to give the opposition something to think about. Having a couple of speedy players to get on the end of it would keep them honest.

Balotelli makes 3 or 4 of these runs most times he plays.
