Apart From The Result

Postby Beefymcfc » Tue Nov 06, 2012 10:43 pm

.....does anybody think we played alright?

I think this was our best game of the season, getting really into it, apart for those few stupid minutes. The stats will hopefully prove.

No, for me we played mediocre at tops.

Just look at the second half, before Sergio scored, does anyone remember a shot at goal? No.

I think we were better with Dortmund.

I don't think it was our best game this season but I was pleased with the way we started with good energy and intent. But and again, ignoring shocking defensive lapses,I didn't think we were creating enough as the movement and especially touch was missing.

The key moments in the 2nd half were from a long ball which Mario flicked on, an excellent lofted ball from Mario onto Edin's chest which was part of the disallowed goal and then the Joe Hart free kick right at the death. Not really much from the cultured passing game we thrive on. Good that we can mix it up I suppose.

We were SHIT in defence and average elsewhere.
The defence really was abysmal and I blame Kompany who CANNOT organize fuckall at the back...he has been our worst player of the season so far...even worst than Ripley.

I thought besides the two cock ups amd small spells of being shocked after each goal, we showed amazing spirit and had the officials done their job we would be more than happy with our 5-2 win.

City were very good second half for long spells , all the players proper wanted it . We do as fans however have to accept the CL is another level and Ajax are technically very very good even though the media build City up as potential CL winners ....... which of course we arent just yet !

Still fuckin fumin , sorry to say this yet again after tonights decisions .....City playing well now means nothing in the CL as European football is bent !
Not really here

It was just a bit too much 'huff and puff' and not enough science and artistry for my liking. It was a fairly robust and physical game, just hope we haven't picked up any more injuries.

I suppose now we can concentrate on The League, as the saying goes.....

But anyway - I thought second half, even if we didn't play particularly well, at least a decent proportion of the team looked like they wanted to give it a go. Agree that VK was poor, especially off the ball.

We got the ball in the net 4 times. We looked sharp. We just need to wake up when it's a corner.

I thought Vinnie was alright in open play, he made a few interceptions and got forward a few times, passed it around quite well.

I'd agree with this. Was very worried about spuds at the weekend, but felt we finally turned tonight.

The person that forgot to put studs in Aguero's boots needs to be sacked though ;-)

No not our best this season and my main concern is the only players busting a gut to get behind the oppo's defence are our full backs. No runners from midfield and if the ball is put long only little fella's upfront.

A few decisions going our way, more concentration at set pieces, longer studs on Aguero's boots... we could have been looking back at one a great night of European Football.

It sort of sums up our season so far. I thought we played okay, but looked defensively naive, and that's what really cost us!

I wondered about that but on that occasion where he nicked the ball off the keeper, his slip was nothing to do with studs. He just put his foot down on the side rather than the studs. Not sure about the others.

Agree entirely beefy

Yes they were 2 sloppy goals, we'd dominated before and then again after I thought, showed commitment and desire and kept at it.

Was pleased to see us playing Yaya in a more advanced midfield role, he can effect the game in a more positive way from there. I also thought Vinnie and Nasti looked much more solid as a pairing as the game progressed. Good to see Aguero on the score sheet - we all know goals breed confidence for strikers and he hit the back of the net 3 times in total of course.

I also thought Edin and Balo contributed quickly after coming on as well as Kolarov in what little time he had.

Zabba and Nasri also worth a mention and Tevez whilst not being able to make the impact he would have wanted worked his nuts off as usual. For me we deserved to win comfortably but we all know in football you don't always get what you deserve

I remember that one. But for the others I actually think the physios may have given him shorter studs to prevent him getting them caught in the turf, following his knee injury. I have no other explanation!

pleased, very pleased with attitude - defending set pieces a part, obviously - desire, commitment and effort.
But far from our best game of the season.
we missed badly our strong midfield, from where we started bossing every flamboyant game we played, Injury emergency there, Garcia just on minimum requirement to be given the starting nod and my beloved GazBaz well below his standard.
One flank only worked and I continue to puzzle myself on where has been lost the Gael of last season.
Strikers skidding and shy on shooting didn't help either.

performance wise I do consider this a set back from the latest.
but, once reassured on commitment to our colours, They will soon strike back steadily.
Imo best performance so far has been WBA, pretty uncontestedly.

As said already, I am convinced that the boys overall still suffer/perceive the rarefied atmosphere of the Chumps as if the were playing up top on a Nepal ground.
Think we will see progressive and steady improvements on domestic games. on saturday I very much enjoyed glimpses of a very good Vinnie, for an instance.

Overall, time to test Mancini's men management if ever was one. This bent pain might be used to spur the boys and it should: that's the only thing where Maureen is best in the world, btw.
