Gerrard has never been a "deep lying play maker".
He's a dynamic midfielder who was all over the park, not just sat in front of the defence.

He is turning (or being turned) into one though, more so for England at the moment.

Fernandhino of Shakhtar would be ideal in this position if his display against Chelsea the other night is any sort of indicator to his natural game.

He had a good game, made me rethink my stance on Brazilians really - it was just one game though (but a very good one from him)
