I feel sorry for him tbh.

It's just not happening for him when he starts. The style of play could be one of those but even so.
Come on Edin, score a couple tonight!!

he is being man marked very tightly. he is not getting the time or space. he needs to play a bit smarter and pull the defender all over the place

This is his main problem - he is awful when being tightly marked because his first touch is not good enough. Top players like Aguero can handle being tightly marked because their first touch is excellent. Dzeko cannot receive the ball when under pressure form a defender without conceding possession. His lack of pace and movement also prevent him from getting away from his marker like Aguero and Tevez are able to do. Great in the box but a liability anywhere else on the pitch and unless we start matches in the same fashion that we play when chasing a game, he shouldn't start.

We're being too generic in our responses here.

He's not tightly marked every time. Twice I remember him having loads of space and clearly fucking up a simple pass.

1st on the break and he had acres or space with 3 or 4 options and gave it straight to a defender.

Other one I clearly remember is him sticking it behind silva and out for a throw under no pressure.

He was shocking tonight.

Brought the ball down well and played a nice pass that won us the peno.

He was on and off.

Deserves some bench time tomorrow, he didnt move anywhere near enough for me on weds, he was easy to defend against because he stood on one spot for most of the game waiting to be gifted with the perfect assist rather than making their defence follow him opening up spaces or even creating anything for himself.

I'd like to see Balotelli subbed on for the last 15 or so mins.

I'm convinced Tevez is carrying a knock. He hasn't looked right the past couple of weeks.

I don't understand why Mancini doesn't realise what the whole country does. That dzeko is useless if he starts.

Play him as a sub only and if e keeps crying and wants out, sell him. Tevez and aguero are better starters, no idea why they don't start often this season.

Do you have any data that can confirm this?

I mean, it appears to me also that Tevez and Sergio are better as starters, but then I wonder... How many times with two of them starting the match we would end up in 70th+ min having a draw or even being a goal down... why's that then.. I wonder.

What Im saying is.. Im not convinced in anything anymore.

When he comes on it's because we're looking for a goal, and so start launching it into the box. When he starts, we play like we do with Tevez and Aguero up front which is everything through the middle. He can't start trying to turn the last defender with his back to goal like the other two which is what he gets asked to do when he starts. He thrives when we are throwing the kitchen sink at teams and he can get on a cross or pick up a deflection. If we played to his strengths rather than his strike partners, he would score every week. That said, Tevez and Aguero offer more to the team than he does, so he still shouldn't start.

No data I'm afraid, I'm just basing my assessment of watching every game from last season and this one. This season is more evident than ever. Tevez and Sergio have hardly started at altogether this season which means who ever was starting with tevez when sergio was injured was a spare part, like wise now whoever starts with Sergio is the spare part minus tevez.

Mario gets played because mancini won't admit defeat that for all his potential, mario is a lost cause for city at least. And dzeko has proven every match he starts he will go missing or flop he ball.

That's pretty much as I see it too, we have got used to playing a certain way which doesn't suit Dzeko, and we only change when we're chasing a game (which is usually when he scores).
