They didn't make a late appearance (or one of them didn't) due to the injury to Milner, no idea why Balo was picked ahead of them, other than Bob rotating. Might have seen something in training that made him want Balo/Aguero to start.

wondering the same before ko.
during the game I did realized that we are going to play two massive, very demanding games in 4 days, next.
Could be for that

Mancini spreading the love, or just an arm around Mario. Either way I don't care, he's a striker and the striker scored.

They're the ones who usually win you matches don't you know ;-)

Our away record is shocking, we don't look like scoring and it is because our manager is an absolute shit house!

I know this was posted at around the 60 minute mark, but even so, YOU FUCKING WHAT?!

I stand by that.
We were playing an injury ravaged team who are shit at full strength.
Balo didn't look like scoring.
City didn't look like scoring.
Our away record in 2012 is VERY poor.
It is a not a coincidence that we don't look dangerous when our manager is a shithouse.

This sounds like something I would expect from a rag supporter you have got to give Wigan some credit mate they played well , and as for calling our manager a shithouse thats just unbelievable , he made the changes that won us the game 2-0 , he has won us the FA cup , the league and the charity shield . We are 2nd in the league and your slagging him off . Go and have a word with yourself FFS

Sadly, it might be next season before we start to see the best of Garcia and we might have to reconcile ourselves to the fact that this season is going to be a complete wash-out for that player.

I suppose the media will have a field day though, given that it looks as though he went straight down the tunnel when substituted.

Wigan a good team? No they aren't, they are a poor team ...with huge injury problems.
But they out played us and looked more likely to score than us.
Lets get serious here, the good sides we have played this season have batttered us. Ajax (twice) and they are not the best, Madrid took us apart home and away. Arsenal at home were better than us. Liverpool were better than us. We have beaten just Fulham, WBA and a depleted Wigan this season.
We don't look like scoring, and didn't for long periods tonight, we invite poor teams to beat us (we could have lost tonight easily, Ajax aren't good and we shit ourselves v Arsenal as usual)
Read that thread this evening, nobody was calling it a professional away performance. It was awful. . . .. against a bad team.

And I'm as Blue as most here. I've watched us for forty years, I'll be in Dortmund, at Newcastle and Sunderland. Just cos I aint a sycophant don't question my credentials, I've sacrificed more than most for City over the years.

Did he go down the tunnel after he was subbed? I didn't see that but he definitely didn't look injured to me either. Garcia looks out of his depth in the Premier League at the moment, which is understandable considering that he has come from a different league and has only played a handful of games for us in a season that so far has been disrupted by injury. I think it was a mistake by Mancini to play him tonight and he should be gradually introduced to the Prem in our home games only. Matches like tonight are only going to further dent his confidence and he should not be in the starting XI away from home

Piccs, there's nothing wrong with your credentials mate, it's the shit you've just spouted. I'm watching MotD now (not seen the game) but this is the way football is. I've played in teams who have been beaten before they start but I've also played in teams who will never be beaten. To blame Mario and Mancini for a win should be a complement, not a negative, especially when you've got players that really didn't play well.

A loss or a shit draw I can understand. A 2-0 win away from home against a dogged and well rehearsed side is no mean feat. I'm thinking you've got an agenda mate.

Next you'll be telling me that Van den Plas' goal was played and United will piss the league.

tonight we were the Ric Flair of Football. Come into your town, make the locals look good for 60 minutes. then beat them decisively.

The Guardian's match report is a disgrace however:

Mario Balotelli did not do much in this game except score the opening goal, his first in the Premier League this season, yet it was enough to tilt the result Manchester City's way after Wigan Athletic had spent an hour looking more than capable of holding the defending champions to another scoreless draw.

Wigan even had chances to take the lead themselves before Balotelli pounced with a slightly scruffy goal to re-energise a tired-looking City. Many a manager would have hauled the under-performing striker off in favour of Carlos Tevez or Edin Dzeko before the 69th minute, but Roberto Mancini's patience paid dividends and once again one of his substitutes, James Milner, made victory safe with a stylish goal before departing with a pulled hamstring.

While sending Milner on for the disappointing Javi García was a routine substitution and an effective one, Mancini perplexed many observers by replacing Sergio Agüero with the defender Aleksandar Kolarov when the game was still goalless. "We still had enough offensive players," he explained. "We have four top strikers at the club and Mario is one of them, and I am happy he scored his first goal."

Internazionale have just denied they are interested in re-signing Balotelli, and on this evidence Nerazzurri fans would not consider they are missing out on much, although he did work harder than Agüero in the second half. Making a rare start for the visitors in the centre of the attacking three, Balotelli was a spectator in the first period, occasionally moving out to the left wing to try and see more of the ball.

Agüero was taking a turn in the middle when a mistake by Maynor Figueroa almost proved costly, Adrián López coming to the rescue after the Wigan defender's attempted clearance went straight to the City striker. Agüero had a clear run to goal from 40 yards out but could not quite summon the pace to shake off the rapidly arriving cover.

Thus reprieved, Wigan came back strongly, with Ronnie Stam twice showing Pablo Zabaleta a clean pair of heels down the right and Arouna Koné heading narrowly over from the second of his crosses. Jordi Gómez shaved an upright from a free-kick following a foul by Agüero, who found himself exposed in a defensive area through García's surprising reluctance to make a challenge.

City survived a penalty appeal right at the end of the first half when Gómez flung himself theatrically to the ground after the tiniest of shirt-tugs from Zabaleta, then the Wigan player earned a caution for taking out his frustration with a snap at Gareth Barry's ankles.

On the day when David Platt earned a two-match European ban for being sent to the stands against Real Madrid, and City themselves picked up a £10,000 fine for having five players booked in the same Champions League game, Mancini's side made it to the interval unscathed but saw Barry booked later for a retaliatory foul on Gómez.

Balotelli received his first clear goalscoring opportunity at the start of the second half – and missed. Maicon's cross from the right found the Italian unmarked at the far post and, though the angle was tight, Balotelli should have at least hit the target with a close-range free header.

Minutes later at the other end Koné was guilty of an even more glaring miss when James McCarthy's diagonal cross picked him out in front of goal, yet from a position near the penalty spot he sent his header yards wide. When neither Koné nor Gómez could get on the end of Jean Beausejour's useful cross after an hour Wigan must have begun to fear the worst.

Surprisingly Tevez and Dzeko remained on the bench even when Agüero was withdrawn, though as Balotelli struck within seconds it hardly seemed to matter. Milner and David Silva were involved in the buildup, before Ali al-Habsi spilled Barry's low shot to allow Balotelli to pick up the rebound and score at the second attempt. As goalkeeping errors go it was not up there with his howler against Reading, yet this time there was to be no redemption.

Milner beat him again three minutes later, the England midfielder meeting Silva's pass with a rising, curving drive from the edge of the area. In the space of a couple of attacks City had bagged the points.

"For 60 minutes we were the strongest side," Roberto Martínez said, not completely fancifully. "We were better on the ball than City but we couldn't find a way to score the first goal."

My post on their site:

Honestly The Guardian is one article closer to no longer existing

"Wigan even had chances to take the lead"

As opposed to what? equalise? consolidate the defeat? They weren't a 4th division team, they played well give them some credit.

"Mario Balotelli did not do much in this game except score the opening goal"

and the winning goal. There are countless strikers who've made careers out of this.

It helped greatly when Milner came on for Garcia as it meant we were then playing with a full XI, rather than a man short.

Garcia, at £16m, looks like the most expensive Gary Megson clone Ive seen. He needs to go away and come back when he can actually play at Prem Level, otherwise dont come back at all.

Once Garcia went off, we took control of the game, scored twice and put it to bed. Simples.

Kompany and Nastasic superb, Barry dependable, Ya Ya still off colour. The question of can they do it at Wigan on a cold November night, has clearly been answered again as the "crisis" deepens.

Well I'm not Bert's biggest fan in terms of the way we play but to call him a shithouse, a word one might reasonably use to describe the likes of Evra or Cattermole, seems a bit over the top. I think that before you criticise Bert you have to remember what he brings to the party and that is shape, resilience and solidity. No, it often is not very easy on the eye, but a lot of more adventurous teams would have got beat by Wigan, whereas our defensive tactics allowed us to eventually wear them down. And constipated as our play can be, I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Guardiola struggle to match Bert's results. No, it aint Mercer and Allison, but remember that last time we won the title we finished 13th the following season.Chumps league is a different matter though.Awful!

other issues

Nastasic looks like he'll be a regular fixture for the next 10 years, particularly as he's now starting to get his barings in our penalty area as well as looking very composed outside it.Expect to see more of his ability advancing into the oppos half.

Garcia will never make it anywhere but CB and we dont need one. Take a loss.

Milner at fuckin last! First decent strike since he came. Weird considering he's done extra shooting practice after training for the last ten years. Then he goes and injures himself, lol
Maicon continuing to look the part.
Now to beat the Rags

Also, was AK brought on as a left winger or to move to 3-5-2?

Seeing as a point at Chelsea was a fantastic achievement, & Wigan are playing better than Chelsea, we are on target for an absolute orgasm of a result.

Some of the runs Balotelli makes are superb. he is wasting his fucking time making them.

More of a 3-5-1-1 with Silva roaming behind Mario.
