I think the whole "Mario enigma" is just him being too scared to try as he has built up a reputation based on....a reputation. If he started putting effort in everyone would realise he is just an ok player with very favourable physical attributes (see demba ba etc) that give him a slight edge over some other players. He has never actually done anything in a football game that puts him anywhere near the great players of the game. He is nothing but hype.
