Yes he put weigh on, but he was forced into inactivity by the injury, and he likes a pint the same as a lot of players, but so what, do you think the club would not have noticed if he was a serious boozer?, I personally was in the company of another player a few years ago when there was a story run in the media of how drunk the guy was only two days before a big game, he had ONE pint and then went onto soft drinks all night, some people see a young lad with a very well paying job and the green eyed monster takes over.

And as he is still subject to regular drug testing as a pro football player, never mind around fittness coaches and medical staff almost every day, the same question of how nobody would notice applies.

For my money MJ is one of the finest box to box players I have seen in near 50 years of supporting City, he was being compared to Colin Bell by more than a few for good reason, my hope is he gets fit and returns to the club, then we will see if he gets in the team or not.

Id get to spec saviours if I was you.

edited as I was far too nasty.

Would of really liked to see this as blueonblue's post is one of the worse I have seen here in a while.....

It's all over isn't it? Terrible waste of what looked like being such a promising career but if he can't get any minutes for a Championship team then we'll never see him for City again. A combination of horrible luck and poor choices in his personal life have led to where he is now. Big shame.

He has a couple of cans at home to loosen himself up. Goes to the pub and has a few pints. Gets in to Manchester and nails a few shots, has a dance and a light scuffle with a rag who gives him shit. A few more shots then gets dragged out by the bouncers for taking his top off and whirling it around his head. Gets in his car and drives home.

Maybe I am missing something but I don't get any of this vitriol stuff directed at Johnson. No problem with someone posting their opinion of him as a footballer but why the vitriol?

I don't know the kid, I thought he was a very talented kid who still had plenty to learn but showed he might be a class player if he worked hard enough. Sadly he got injured and the gossip mongers came out to play and destroy him. How sad.

I picked him up more than once and d'yer know, he was just a well mannered kid who chatted politely, quite friendly and affable and caused no trouble whatsoever....No story in that though.

At least he's off our books this year. Crazy to see how different he looks after only 3-4 years. Those goals were something to see.

I agree. He is just a young lad who had the possibility of being a very good footballer indeed and has seen that possibility snatched away from him through no fault of his own.

At the time the contract was offered to him, he was fit and regularly playing well in a mid-table to top six team. It was the right thing to do at the time. With hindsight it has perhaps been an error, but hey, it is one the club can afford. It is not as if we are Chester City paying Steve Harkness five grand a week.

Have you seen him at all in training, Doug?

That's in sharp contrast to the two taxi-based stories posted on here about him that I remember, and I could've sworn one of them was posted by the cab driver himself.

And the fact that when we still had young virile posters enjoying themselves out in the town, he was regularily spotted out in town midweek drinking.

Yes, he had bad luck with injuries but nothing out of ordinary really. The fact that he couldn't get himself back in shape was down to him. And if he was some completely unrelevant guy no one would care. But he showed some genuine promise once upon a time. Although not even nearly as much as some people claim. The one post saying he was best box-to-box midfielder we've had in past 50 years still makes me laugh.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Now, I'm not a young virile poster, but I'd often see him legless around town midweeks. Friends of mine who don't even like football would always tell me they'd seen him out too. This was only a year to 18 months after his 'breakthrough'.

Let him do what he wants but he wasted the opportunity for us to discuss him as a footballer imo.

Plus he was promising, but he wasn't really half as good as the hype suggested.
