How would it be done in our stadia that are all full of seats though? They wouldn't be able to just take the seats out would they?

Bit of redesigning. A swing seat attached to a barrier structure behind & another barrier in front with swing seat for the geezer in front on the row below etc rather than just a seat with a back on it. Then for Euro games it becomes all seater. Don't think it would drastically increase capacity, just fun.

So, between those barriers are 2 steps of terracing, does that mean in standing mode it is two deep in there?

Given the average waist size in the UK these days I can't see them getting two rows in those dimensions, unless it's a spooning section.

Sadly its a slim chance of standing returning at football at the top level, its nothing to do with safety and never was, rather it allowed politicians to stick their f*cking noses into football and dictate yet another aspect of our daily lives.

The north stand at Maine rd as an example was certainly capable of meeting any and every standard of safe standing even today anywhere in the world, the clubs were enticed by the increased revenue all seater stadiums promised while the various supporters groups fell for the empty promise of no unfair price increases.........allowing for inflation the true cost of a seat should therefore be around 12 quid or so at most.

Still, if we give up the fight it will be a certainty, so next time you see your MP (when he`s banging on the door asking for your vote) pull the c*nt up and ask if he will support the campaign, there are a few MPs trying to get a bill through parliament to at least look into it, so getting your MP on board will help.

Just seen the print version of the MUEN & it says City are backing safe standing & willing to trial it.

Can't find it ont net so far, but it's there in print.

Rags don't back it because they can't do it at the swamp. Therefore why back it if it has no advantage to them ? Bunch of wankers.

City deffo backing it though: Deep joy.

Hey Piccs, apparently City are thinking of trialing standing for managers too Mate. No point letting them have a plush easy chair they could get long term comfy in......:-)

Trapdoor in the technical area and maybe a small waiting room with a revolving door?

Here't the MuEN article:

Manchester City will trial standing at the Etihad stadium – if the FA give it the go ahead.

Blues bosses have revealed that they would support the introduction of safe standing as long as it was supported by the authorities. The news is likely to provide a huge shot in the arm to the campaign to bring back standing at top-flight stadiums.

A total of 13 clubs have backed the initiative, which would see German-style safe standing zones brought to Britain.

But only one of those, Aston Villa, is a Premier League outfit – and the backing of the champions of England could turn the debate on its head.

A City spokesman said: "Manchester City Football Club is supportive of initiatives to enhance safely, our fans’ matchday experience if supported by the appropriate football authorities."

Standing was banned in the top two divisions following the Taylor Report into the Hillsborough Disaster.

A total of 96 Liverpool fans perished on the Leppings Lane terrace at an FA Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday’s home ground in 1989.

But the campaign for the re-introduction of standing areas was boosted by the findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel, earlier this year which placed the blame for the tragedy firmly at the feet of South Yorkshire Police.

In Germany’s boisterous Bundesliga, thousands of fans stand in ‘rail seat’ zones which feature safety barriers and optional flip-down seats.

And national fans’ group the Football Supporters Federation believe that their introduction would vastly improve the atmosphere at English grounds.

They took their campaign to Parliament earlier this month, backed by 13 clubs including Villa. But City’s statement will add further weight to their case.

United remain opposed to the idea. A Reds’ source said that Old Trafford would be ‘incapable’ of supporting standing sections as the new stands at the stadium were built to accommodate seats.

The M.E.N. reported last week how Wythenshawe and Sale East MP Paul Goggins was backing the campaign. The City fan believes that safe standing areas would stop those who prefer to sit not being able to see when others stand.

He said: "If we had clearly-designated standing areas then those who wanted to stand could do so, while those of us who would prefer to sit down could enjoy the game.

"With the right kind of supervision from the police and stewards, this could make the stands safer."
