This is the most incisive and insightful comment on this particular thread. Well done Mr H. for making it.

At the moment, Yaya, who at 29 should be in his prime years, looks like a player who is ten years older. All talk of 'resting' him is immaterial when he'll be disappearing to Africa in January and coming back either carrying an injury, or even more (supposedly) exhausted than now.

He can be an out and out match winner, but we've got to play him further forward to achieve this and not shackle him into a job he won't/can't do very well i.e. defending and closing opponents down.

Not a Dzeko fanboy by far, but he is one of the best strikers in the world. Just look at the game with Spurs, 86 minutes he was shite, then he scores the winning goal. He is a genuine poacher. On his position, only Mario Gomez is better.

Regarding Yaya, 3-4 games of a season he has the "ability" to fuck us up (Sunderland last season), but on the same note, he has the talent to do what he did at Newcastle in may. This season he was a bit slower that usual, maybe the whole Kolo and agent situation got to him + there aren't no signs of a new contract.

I think he wants more money, while our board wants to offer him less because he is starting to get old.

I think the "problem" is that he is being held back, it was clear from the first few games that we need to be a bit more stable in midfield, especially when we were without Barry. Rodders and Garcia are no Barry or De Jong and it showed. If yaya ventured forwards, no one was capable of holding the middle of the park. The fact that he's being held back, to me, isn't a problem, its a neccessity at the moment until we find our "form" from parts of last season.

Barry does this very well, and it at least gives yaya the license (if instructed) to go on the lung bursting runs. There have been many times this season where he wont go far beyond the half way line, which makes me think he's been asked to sit a bit deeper. At times he's been pushed forwards, but hasnt had the opportunity too often to run through the middle of the park, mainly because teams know that allowing him to do that is likely to hurt them badly.

He's always been a little bit inconsistent, but as we all know, when the chips are really down, he's one of the players we can rely on. I'm certain by the end of the season we will all be waxing lyrical about him, and this thread will almost be completely forgotten about.

Yaya: I want to finish my career with City

Yaya Toure has handed the Blues a boost ahead of a difficult trip to Newcastle United.

The powerful midfielder, regarded as one of the most complete players in the Premier League and Europe, says he wants to finish his playing days as a City player – but not before he has added many more winner’s medals to his collection

“I would love to end my career here,” said Yaya. “Nobody knows what the next step is in football and I believe that if you stop dreaming, you should stop playing football, but this is where I want to be.

“When I first arrived at City, every time I went to sleep I would dream about us winning something and about us being the best team in whatever competition we take part in.

“I believe I have to work harder all the time to improve and stay at the top level with this club. I will give my all every time I play and I will never forget how the fans have treated me here so nothing would give me greater pleasure than to finish my career as a Manchester City player.”

Yaya, who injured his knee in the derby defeat to United last weekend, will take his place in the Blues’ midfield at St James’ Park – scene of his two-goal heroics in the title run-in last season.

Yaya believes that was the first of many championship triumphs and he is determined to help City achieve more success at home and in Europe in the coming years.

“We want to make history and that was part of my plan when I first signed – to make history – and we’ve made a start but there is so many more chapters to be written,” said the Ivorian.

“I’m really enjoying my football here and I’m playing in front of the most amazing fans I’ve ever come across.

“Ending my playing career at City would be unbelievable, but I know it won’t be easy because we want to win everything and the Club is always looking to improve.

“There is no other place I would rather finish with and I want to continue winning titles and trophies with City. I believe we are just at the beginning of our journey.

Hopefully that will stop his fuckwit agent agitating for a move again (or more likely, the fuckwit tabloids trying to rehash old comments atributed to his agent)

You mean some time ago when the media took some statements from a press conference where he was being polite to the club he had recently left and twisted them into something completely different?

So the I want to finish my career at City statement, was a softener to the follow up news the day after of "Oh by the way, Im buggering off again for a month in Jan/Feb for the ACON."

This was a problem last year that is coming again and needs addressing. To have this twice in 2 yrs and not have a suitable midfielder who can fill the void creates a major problem for us, particularly as the FA Cup may be all we have left and old Ya Ya will be absent for rnds 4 and 5 should we make it that far.

Well a lot on this site have been criticising Yaya for his performances lately, so maybe we will not miss him ?? The time he will be away will give ample proof if these sentiments are correct or not.
As for replacements, I think Milner is the only choice with Carlos playing a deeper role to compensate for Yaya's surges forward.
