Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton

Obviously a link to todays game, but what do you think of Hughton as a manager?

I thought it absolutely pathetic of Ashley sacking him for Pardew a couple of years back and was quite amazed of his acheivements with Newcastle. He'd brought them back to the Prem with what I thought was a similar fall and rise to ours and had them in a very decent position when he was unexplainably sacked (something to do with an experienced manager). He did well with Birmingham, under very extreme circumstances before being appointed the Norwich manager. He now sits in 7th place with a Norwich side who I thought would be hanging off the relegation zone.

I've never rated Pardew but are we now seeing that it was Hughton who brought this team together and that last year was the residue of Hughton's influence? How good could Hughton actually be and why does he not get enough credit?

I like the bloke.

May well have been, Houghton is certainly proving that he has what it takes, whereas Alan 'I beg your' Pardew is on a TERRIBLE run right now. And it's a joke after signing, what was it, and eight year contract? miserable.

I like Houghton but i think he definitely suffers from being quiet, and a seemingly nice guy. He's the kind of guy the media will eat up, and they love to typecast a lovable loser or someone who does well despite themselves.

I think you're seeing what you want to see, the players he brought in to replace key losses have all performed especially last season. It's been the case that they have a threadbare squad though, and injuries and the African competition last season proved it at times, just as injuries this season have proved it. I'm not a fan of Pardew but Newcastle did well last year. (and yes I thought the sacking of Hughton was pointless and unwarranted).

I probably am seeing what I want and it's probably down to my dislike of Pardew. However, what has to be said is that Hughton had a decent record with Newcastle and was sacked when in 11th place; Pardew finished the season in 12th.

Last year was a very good season for the Toon and this year has been a bit of a flop due to injuries but are they that bad that we can see such a turn-around in form? I think thy should be doing better and even though Hughton is the quiet man, he gets on with the job and is now punching well above his weight at Norwich. I'm not sure of his points ratio at Norwich but I did read that he only lost 14 out of 70 at Newcastle.

Good man in my opinion.

What do you dislike about Pardew?

Fair enough. Is there history here that I've missed?

Not really mate. It maybe when he was Reading manager. My mate had a soft spot for Reading and we used to pop over for games (lived in London). He did well for them but then fucked them off for West Ham. A bit of an unsavoury end to his time but I never really liked him anyway. He just came across as obnoxious and when he took over at the Toon it just reaffirmed to me that he's also a slimey cunt. I don't rate him as a manager either.

Just a personal view mate, nothing more.

I like Hughton by the way - I was on here cursing Ashley as a clueless cockernay when he sacked him. Certainly did nothing to merit being sacked.

Well I guess that's how it is. Some people just stick out like aching pain in your wisdom teeth whenever you see them or hear of them. I have a lot of those, to many probably. As long as you keep that to people in sports I think it's healthy. If you wanted my opinion on the matter that is...

Anyways, I have nothing against the man and was quite impressed with how far he took Newcastle last season. It'll also be quite interesting to see if Ashley's ready to honour his contract with him. If he did, it'd set some sort of modern precedent for managerial stability in the PL and I think it'd be positive.

With that said, I've been baffled with how flat NUFC have looked whenever we've played them under Pardew (it's ike... three times now? four?). Especially when they came to the Etihad last autumn. I don't want to go all Ted on them and say they were shite and that I'm princess Madeleine Bernadotte, but it was flat. Really flat. No idea what so ever. And although they came close yesterday, I'd still say they were helped by good individual efferts rather than some sort of elaborate plan. I've seen to few games with NUFC other then when they've played us, but if that's a general pattern, then Pardew's tactital ability is at least questionable.

I've also have a bit of a soft spot for Newcastle so when he arrived, under the circumstances, then it grated a little more.

I think Hughton is an example to other managers that you do not have to be Alex Ferguson with his 'hairdryer' treatment to be a good manager. Hughton seems like a good guy, and doesn't seem to come across as any different to command respect from his players. he's done well at Newcastle, Birmingham and now Norwich without vast resources and will be interesting to see if any of the bigger clubs come calling in a few years time if he proves consistent with Norwich

Loved Chris Hughton as a player and rate him high as manager as well.
Not sure to have already made up such a diminutive opinion of Pardew, but certainly the sack had been infinitely harsher than the over-reacted dismissal of Sparky. Guess why?

The same tackle he was sent off for in the united game last year?

He is right to ask the question why it wasn't a foul given that the same warranted a red card 12 months ago
