ok i'll bite, i don't often do...

Nasri is a short arse. Bassong is a big fella.

Whether the tackle hurt Nasri or not , Bassong imposed himself, bending over the little runt and tried to be the bully in the school yard. Nasri stood his ground. Yeah , in a fight he would certainly lose out to the muscle of Bassong. He stood his ground though and was damn unlucky to be sent off for it. Bassong should have walked too. However, until this moment , there had really been no serious or dangerous fouling in the game. The ref , who should be fired tomorrow , could easily have taken both to one side , tell em to shut the f up, calm down and let them know it was the last time.

This ref , like the Arse against united, ruined the game. With eleven players we could easily have wracked up six or seven goals.

If somebody had took me out like the way he did I wouldn't have been rolling around and I'd have done more than Nasri.

How many of you would've just laid down and been professional?

Some thoughts on being objective about our players. I suspect it comes with age. Some seem to want to believe that anyone in a blue shirt is deserving of our unreserved support at any one time. I dont see it like that at all.I see City as an institution, the players and staff as merely passing through. I go to support City, but that doesnt involve convincing myself that the bunch in front of me are some kind of flawless superheros and the opposition and their supporters coonts.I am very used to the idea our players tend to be flawed for the simple reason that has always been the case.Within that framework I come to love some and intensely dislike others. I believe there is some half discernible feature that is City and that there is a City type of player. Despite our travails over the years we've always tended to encourage players who were honest and sporting. We've always wanted to attack(fuck off Pearce) even if we didn't have the resources to do it. Our best players have always seemed to have a sense of humour and an ability to laugh at themselves. The crowd has enjoyed the jokes as well as the victories.

I tend to evaluate players and managers within this framework. some I see as part of the tradition. Hart is a Corrigan, Vinny a Mike Doyke, Milner a David Connor, Zab a Roy Paul, Aguero a mix of Buzzer and Franny, Silva a Kinklaze. I struggle to love Ya Ya though he is potentially better than Colin Bell because he seems to perpetually play so far within himself.Mario is to me a buffoon who makes Rodney Marsh look like a hard working professional but that might just be my age. Nasri i find difficult to like. He really does seem like the ultimate half trying mercenary, not that we had many of the latter in our impoverished past!. I look at Garcia and see Mick Horswill, but I pray to God he will improve on that.
As for the management, most apart from Ball and Pearce and the Forest bloke have been likeable and have had something going for them. One tends to hold them up against Mercer and Allison in their prime and look for that mix of grit, laughter, adventure and awareness before Mal went bonkers.Ofcourse its a different game now. Managers are under far more scrutiny from ignorant buggers like me, but essentially one is still looking for the same things. Its no secret I dont like the current incumbent though funnily enough I have found myself listening when Platty speaks. Apart from the "winning a football match" robospeak he seems to have grown as a man.

I used to think Bert was City. Some of my friends whose views I respect still do. However to me it has become like watchin the last days of the Medici, as every statement has to be analysed for its intent. I find it hard to believe a man of his intelligence cant speak decent English on football matters after 3 years and wonder if this is by choice. Most are fluent in this situation in six months. In fact Bert reminds me of when Mal started to lose touch with reality and stopped being City, when he was manouvering to displace Joe, and became quite simply an egomaniac. Despite his scarf(you'll say I'm jaundiced if I describe that as a cheap attempt to manipulate the gullible)I dont now see Bert as City. I see him as an alien just doing the job before he goes on to another.Which is unusual. City eventually gets to most managers who do time here.

Ofcourse there are many positives. We still play fair football and try to attack a bit. You wont see many professional or dirty fouls from our players. We have had two fantastic days with the cup and the championship. But somehow the laughter seems to have gone out of it, particularly among the players who rarely seem to smile during a game or involve the fans. So, though I enjoy much of what we do as a team I find myself looking in vain for that joy de vivre that so many of our best players brought. Not just years ago. Think about what Shaun gave us and look at his latter years here.Had Bert gone in the summer, most of this would have remained ill thought out and he would have left a hero. Now I think he is truly out of love with City .Or perhaps, as our fans become ever more strident and boastful, I am.

For a change, a post I understood :-)
I agree with you in most of that, particularly about Nasri somehow being difficult to like.

And it doesn't help being French as well.

To be truthful, there aren't many of our players that I do like, I don't know them personally. There's a few that give you that 'Wow' factor when they are on the pitch and there's those that you respect for the things that they do away from City but all-in-all they are just transients who will be gone while we continue to carry the flag.

City, for me, as always been about the fans. It's always been about the meeting up and the social aspect, a club within the club if you like. I love the winning just like anybody else but I've always took the rough with the smooth and whether I have the love of the players/manager etc in my heart it doesn't matter, it's the people around me that make the club.

Just backing up your thoughts mate. I also think that many years ago we could still relate to the players a little because they were either from the UK or that they were pretty much blokes from the estate. Today is a completely different story.
