Our Strikers

Postby AG7 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 9:17 pm

A lot of debate going on about buying someone in this transfer window to reinvigorate the strike force ...

A lot also being said about enough being enough re: Mario and its time to ship him out ...

Is Dzeko a genuine striker or merely an impact player who should only be used as a (super) sub?

I don't think many would disagree but most of the fans viewed our strikers in this order (towards the end of last season): Aguero, Tevez, Balo, Dzeko ... and this season so far it's Aguero, Tevez, Dzeko, Balo ...

Here's a million dollar question someone asked me today in train: What would be the status of Balotelli at our club and in the view of us City fans, had he been the one who scored that last goal against QPR? Same goes for Dzeko ... would we still hold them 3rd 4th choice behind Aguero/Tevez and still be going on and on about getting rid of them?

well dzeko scored the 2nd and mario assisted the 3rd, which is almost as important as scoring the final one... so the question isn't really that hypothetical at all

Until the last two or three games this season it's been Tevez, dzeko, Aguero, Balo for me.

That said I still think the super midgets play when available, silva, Nasri, Tevez, Aguero. We've built a style may as well bloody use it.

Not a fan of Tevez and Aguero together myself, think we look toothless, in theory it should work, it just doesn't seem too. So for me, you have to play one of them (ideally Aguero) with Dzeko, who obviously isn't a world beater but he does offer a different threat.

Balotelli isn't worth mentioning.

You are joking about Aguero/Tevez right? We won 13/13 game when these two started together till that 14th game against Sunderland this season which dented that 100% win record.

I personally think its them two when combined with both Silva and Nasri on each side works pretty well, take one of the two midfielders behind them out and they don't seem to get too far.

With both Aguero and Nasri out this weekend, plus Yaya missing behind them, it'll be a huge test for us ...

Just read on someone's Facebook where a friend of his (a rag obviously) has commented in detail that its a 10 point gap done deal this weekend as with Howard Webb appointed Fergie has taken care of their fixture against Liverpool, and they seem to think we are way too thin this weekend in personnel to even get a draw at Emirates. I am afraid I am worried for all these reasons but then anything can happen. I hope they lose and we come back with 3 pts.

You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. It helps if you have some kind of a football team, or some nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a beer.

Nobody said they did it all themselves, but it's also worth noting how hard it is for a team to adapt to a big guy putting himself about after chasing argie shadows for 70 odd minutes.

im pretty firmly in the dzeko as super sub camp, but it's a bit of a stretch to attribute his successes to tevez and aguero running the other guys tired.

Really it's because dzeko's game is totally different when he comes on as a sub, and magically his touch isn't bullshit. It's not like the defenders are robots programmed for one type of player at the beginning of a game and when a different type comes in they blow a fuse.

No but they can be bloody tired and a change in system isn't instantly mirrored no matter how good the opposition is.

The stat of wins in Aguero/Tevez starts has to mean something. It's too much to be pure coincidence.

Dzeko is as weird as Balotelli in his own way.

There's nothing wrong with his touch at all but sometimes his control & use of the ball is worse than Ian Ormondroyd & there's no good reason for it. Some of his first touches are magnificent & better than Aguero or Tevez, then next time the ball comes to him, he sticks out a lazy foot & it bounces off his shin for a throw in, or he just randomly flicks the ball over his shoulder to the oppo cb without even looking for a strike partner (as v Watford). Balotelli miscontols the ball in just the same way, then does something incredible 30 secs later.

They are both fucking weird.

Tevez has been our best striker this season but not our best goalscorer. Dzeko has been our best finisher. Aguero was just starting to look himself. Mario can't hit a bull's arse with a banjo at the moment but I think that is about to change (& credit to psychotic Bob if it does).

Most of them can't play together (black mark against psychotic Bob) & it's time they did, or sell some.

Mario & Dzeko should be a fucking terrifying proposition as an alternative to Aguero/ Dzeko/Tevez. Our manager & coaches have failed miserably in not making that happen.

Its almost like we have built this style of play, quite rightly from the defence forwards, and the players who play up front are somewhat incidental. That would be fine if all the players fitted in with that philiosophy, but they clearly dont. We have 4 individuals, who, on their own would all be the main striker at a club and bagging 20 goals a season

Perhaps, with the defence finally looking settled, its time to consider focusing on the offensive elements of our game a little more and let the defence look after itself.

Tevez and Kun are class footballers, Tevez the best striker I've seen at City. Dzeko is great as an impact sub, but I really cannot get excited by him in any other role. He was abysmal against Watford amongst toher games and his lack of footballing ability (ie, first touch, etc) is really poor. Balotelli is a fucking joke. Indulging Balotelli is stomach-churning and has to stop but won't as he's Mancini's favourite, obviously.

I'd like to see Dzeko and Balotelli leave with Falcao coming in, Cavani even if Falcao is a done deal at Real Madrid. Guidetti might be worth a shot as the 4th striker.

I don't see why we can't do all at the same time. If our present coaches can't teach strikers to play together, bring in a specialist. I'm sure Kiddo knows this stuff though, he used to do it & he coached the rags to do it.

We should have 6 different strike partneships to choose from but in reality, only Tevez & Aguero play as a pair. There were signs of an Aguero Dzeko partnership developing v Stoke but v Watford Tevez played a high standard individual game & Dzeko just played with his own dick.

It isn't always the case that 2 players can form a partnership, but ours haven't even tried. It's fundementally wrong, the way they go about it. Watford's crappy strikers played with more understanding of each other's game than Tevez/Dzeko & opened us up twice just with basic 3rd man running, involving the front 2.
